The Chemawa American
Ags Visit State College
On December 19, the upper agricultural students
from Chemawa went on an all-day trip to Corvallis.
There, they saw the different types and breeds of
swine such as fat hogs, bacon hogs, and a new type
of crossbred hogs.
They also went over to the horse barn where the
draft horses and registered saddle horses were kept.
Then they saw the steers at another place. They had
some Hereford and Aberdeen Angus. There, they fed
them the foods required for growth and for beef.
They went to the dairy barn which is reallv two
big barns. They found that Corvallis has some good
bulls and cows too. Their hay loft surely is a big
place. Thev had hav, baled hay, and sacks of mix
ed feeds.
The Ag boys went to their museum, too. where
thev had all sorts of old weapons, rugs, antiques,
rocks, bones, birds, animals, and Indian costumes,
baskets, and weapons. They had most everything
in there. Of course nothing was alive.
The Ag students are taking care of two calves
which are half Holstein and half-Hereford. We plan
to f <iten them to sell and buy some things for our
club room. There is to be a small kitchenette at the
back.
The boys had a meeting and elected the following
officers: president, Jimmie Chocktoot; vice-presi
dent. De I ford Claim secretary treasurer. Leonard
( a ee.
Many New Books In Library
During last summer and this fall seventy new
books have been added to our library. About nine
hundred volumes recieved from the Japanese relo
cation center at Fule Lake have been put on the
shelves. The school has also recieved two hundred
new textbooks.
Mrs. Sanders Jr. has been busy mending book as
she has mended forty so far. The magazines have
been moved to another part of the librarv so she
could make room for the additional books.
Thrills
Not long ago Spade Coolv, a former C. I. S. stu
dent. and his cowboy musicians were at the armory
in Salem. A number of Chemawa students were at
the affair. Spade invited them backstage where thev
had a nice visit with him and two other stars, Bol)
Shannon and Billy Hill. Before the students left he
gave each one his picture. It is rumored that Spade
promised them he'd pay Chemawa a visit again
some dav.
