Indians State "B” Titlists
The Chemawa Indians won the Oregon State ”B"
League Championship from Arlington Friday. De
cember 1. on Salem's Sweetland field. The game was
sponsored by Salemiles in the interest of the war
loan drive. The Indians were first to score in the
second quarter but immediately after the kick-off
Arlington in turn scored, The score at halftime was
7 to 6 in favor of Chemawa.
During the second half Chemawa scored three
more times and made one conversion to bring the
score to 26 to 6.
Gov. Earl Snell presented the champions with
County Basketball Jamboree
Sixteen basketball teams attended a jamboree ses
sion held in Willamette university gymnasium on
the evening of December 8. Chemawa sent two
teams. Fhe A team won over Stayton 8 to 2. The B
team won over Sublimity 10 to 0. The Chemawa
cheering section was presented a trophy, having won
second place in the ''rooting'' section.
Duration League Jamboree
Friday December 22. all of the Duration League
basketball teams met at Mt. Angel for their annual
jamboree. Chemawa and Woodburn tied for high
point honors. They then had to plav it off. with
Woodburn winning the trophy.
The trophy was a hand', carved totem pole with
the colors and insignia of each Duration League
team carved on it. It was carved bv “Lefty” Wilder.
It is to be given to the high scoring team at the jam
boree each year.

Girls Sports
Win Western Oregon “B” Title
The Chemawa Indians rolled to Reedsport to
plav a Turkey day gamefoi the Western "B" League
championship. Chemawa received the kick-off and
marched 75 yards
for a touchdown. In tfie middle

of the second quarter Reedsport tallied to tie the
score 6-6.
In the third quarter the Indians scored again to
bring the score 12-6.
It was a muddy slippery field and the rest of the
dav was spent see-sawing back and forth.
Chemawa made 14 first downs to Reedsport's 8.
Football Banquet
Hawley hall was the scene of gay activity on the
evening of December 14. The occasion was a ban
quet for Chemawa’s 1944 football team. B League
champions. Places were set for forty persons.
A delicious meal was prepared and served by the
senior girls, under the direction of Mrs. Cronk. And
do those boys have healthy appetites!

Two nights a week the girls go to the gymnasium
to enjoy organized sports. Each division has organ
ized two volley ball teams, and they are now ready
to prove their prowess. Fhe A division has chosen
team names of Fhe Panthers, and The Fifteen Saints.
The B division has the titles of The Wolves and
The Wildcats.
On Friday, December 29. teams from the divisions
A and B played an elimination tournament to decide
a championship team. Fhis winning team will plav a
game with an outside team before some basketball
game in January.The Panthers, a picked division
A team, won the tournament, and will plav a picked
division B team in the near future, to decide the
championship.
During the past three months vollvball has been
the leading sport: basketball will be in the spotlight
during January. February and March. April w ill take
care of the spring sports of tennis, baseball, and
fieldball.

The senior girls entertained the high school stu
dents and employees at an open Louse reception
