Foxes Squeeze by Indians
An undefeated Silverton team came to our village
and were almost sent home with one setback. Che­
mawa all but h^d the game cinched but a second-
half rally sparked by Art Zahler, their flashy forward,
put the Foxes ahead to stay. The final score Foxes
28, Indians 26. The B team romped over the Silver-
ton seconds without trouble.
Chemawa basketball team at last hit their stride.
They started with a 43 to 23 win over the Salem
Air Base. The boys were uncheckable that night.
Chemawa Batters Sweet Home
The tough leather throwing Indians went to Sweet
Home for a return match Saturday Jan. 23, where
they fought and beat the scrappv lumberjacks by the
score of 18-4.
The boys proved good and put on a fine show.
We will meet this group again Feb. 3, at the Salem
Armory for another match, the proceeds of which
will go to the fund for infantile paralysis control.
Meachum Tulee KO'd his man in the second
round; Art Johnson lost by decision; Cliff Arthur
fought to a draw.
The other boys: Leslie Bill, Willie Gensaw, Terry
Francis, and Robert Kutch won by decisions.
Boxers Defeat Sweet Home
On January 15, Chemawa boxing fans got to see
what their Injun “pugs" really could do. The gym
was full of action from the start to the finish.

The boys who won decisions for Chemawa were R.
Kutch, L. Bill. A. Johnson, and A. Davis scored
TKO’s over their opponents. M. Tulee KO'd his
man. T. Francis drew a draw. W. Gensaw, C. Art­
hur lost their bouts.
Braves Down Angels
To stretch their win streak to two games they
romped over a favored Mt. Angel team in a Duration
League game It was a thrilling game and at the end
Chemawa was ahead 29 to 24.
Our undefeated B team in league play waltzed
over the baby Angels by the score of 39 to 17.
Two ofChemawa’s gridsters were picked for the
Duration League Football All-Star team. Arnold
Davis ami George Walters, both of the 1942 cham-
pions, were mentioned.
Arnold Davis was voted the center spot on the
first team. George Walters, out with an injured knee
most of the season, made the second team as one
of the backfield.
$44.83 for Polio Fund
Tuesday, Jan. 18, Chemawa played Woodburn a
basketball game and the proceeds went to the fund
for infantile paralysis control. Students were not
charged admission but were allowed to give what­
ever they wished. The total amounted to $44.83.
The game was played hard and clean, with
Woodburn winning 49-26. Chemawa “Papooses”
knocked Woodburn “B”s 32-29. The Papooses
have won all of their League games so far.
Indians Downed by Bucks
Chemawa journeyed to Molalla for their first
Duration League basketball game. Our boys found
the Bucks a little superior and went down by the
score of 31 to 18.
