Basketball and Boxing in Sportlight
Football togs are hung up now and bruises have
healed. Basketball bo}S have turned out, and train
ing is on.
Four games have been played. Amity played us
here December 10. Our A team was defeated 10-20,
but the B team won 29-11. On December 15 the
teams went to Independence to play. The B team
won 27-11, while the A team lost, 18-8.
Boxing and wrestling is attracting many of the
boys, too. Mr. Wright Noel is coaching these sports
Mr. Thompson is coaching basketball.

Amity, 13-6.
Yes Sir, thats the story that echoed all over the
Redskins campgrounds and in every teepee on that
nice sunny Armistice Day.
The Injuns were red hot that day. Everyone had
the football spirit in them. Every student and em
ployee was on hand to cheer the fighting Injuns to
victory.
The Braves started out with a bang. After kick-
ng off to Amity, the Injuns held Amity until they
had to punt out. Then the Injuns marched down
the field. Williams, halfback, hit pay dirt on an off
tackle smash. G. Hoffer converted. In the third
quarter Larsen crashed over for a touchdown after
a long march. The conversion failed. In the last
minute of play Amity counted for their only pay
Duration Jamboree Held
The Chemawa basketball team, the pep squad
and most of the high school students appeared at
the Mt. Angel gym December 21st, for Duration
League Jamboree.
Packing the gym to the rafters was the largest
crowd to witness this e'ent which started another
basketball year. The games were hard fought and
very close. They played 10-minute quarters, each
game lasting two quarters.
Canby edged out a 19-17 win over Woodburn.
The host team, Mt. Angel, squeezed through a
14-12 win over the Chemawa Indians. Logan was
the high point man with five tallies for Chemawa.
Molalla beat a hard fighting Silverton team 19 to
10. All teams showed their best, and this year they
are about even in players.
Each school had a certain section in the gymna
sium. Yells came from all the schools, but Chemawa
started it off. Everyone showed a swell spirit and
had a grand time. The Canby band played the school
songs to add to the program.
Banquet for Football Players
The football squad was entertained at a swell
banquet in Hawley hall at noon, December 14th.
The boys enjoyed steak and other goodies prepared
by some eleventh grade girls under the direction of
Mrs. Cronk. The tables were beautifully decorated
with fruit, candles, and holly.
Coach Thompson was master of ceremonies. In
teresting talks were given by Mr. Wilder, Mr.
Shepard, Mr. Larsen, Mr. Evans, and George Walters.
Other guests were Miss Page, Mr. Clingenpeel, and
Dr. McClusky.
