Antarctic Pictures Seen at Chemawa
Mr. Jack Ruttie who was mate on the North Star
on the expedition to Little America in 1940, was a
guest ofSupt. and Mrs. Jackson on Feb. 1. During
his stay he showed very interesting pictures of the
expedition to the Chemawa people and their friends.
The highlights of the pictures were the activities in
the Panama Canal when the North Star went through,
and the huge snow cruiser as it was put on the ship
and as it was removed on the snow in the Antarctic.
The picture showed the different types of animal life,
as the seal and the penguin, that were seen by the
expedition. The all-color pictures and the explana
tion by Mr. Ruttie of the various experiences of the
expedition were enjoyed very much by all who at
tended.

Organizations Enjoy Splash Party
The Hi-Y and the Y. W. gathered at the Salem
Y.M.C.A. gym for their annual splash party on Sat
urday night, January 31.
Upon arrival it didn’t take long for the boys and
girls to don their bathing suits for a good splash
where most of the evening was spent by those who
wanted to swim. The others who did not care to
swim played games in the gym. After the swim, re
freshments were served. Weiners were roasted in the
open fireplace and marshmellows were passed around
and soon consumed. Because they were having
such a good time, swimming, playing, and singing,
the group hated to go when the time came to re
turn to the campus.
