    Sweet Music by Mr. Scheinost
and his Glee Club
After their debut at Chapel on Sunday even
ing, Oct. 19, all the members have a right to be
proud! That evening when they began to sing the
audience was so enthralled, an immediate hush
seemed to sweep everyone. The selections sung
were “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny” and
“Lo H ow a Rose E’er Blooming.”
Besides working on numbers for the Mixed
Chorus every Friday, the Glee Club is also work
ing on numbers for the choruses separately dur
ing the week. Their progress has been quite
successful so far but they’re hoping to improve
more as they go along through the year.
Three cheers, then, for Mr. Scheinost and his
talented group! We really think they’re “tops”
and weare anxious to hear them sing as often as
they can in the future.
Senior Carnival Staged on Halloween
Exciting! Thats the only word a person could
use to describe the evening of Oct. 31,for on that
evening the seniors gave their annual senior car
nival in the gym.
Ten booths in which the students could try
their skill and luck! Many were skillful, or just
plain lucky and came back to their buildings with
a large variety of prizes. During the test black
out occuring at 9:50 and lasting until 10:00, Mr.
Scheinost led the students in a group of songs.
In this way it seemed like those ten minutes
simply “flew by” and in no time at all the lights
were back on and the prizes were given out to
the lucky winners. Some of the most coveted
prizes were a pillow that was won by Miss Selma
Hoffmann; a floor lamp that went to Margaret
Lafferty and a waste-basket which was won by
Miss Clark. Besides these, there were five other
prizes including a box of candy and three large
cakes.
In addition to all the gaiety of the affair, there
was also dancing after all the booths were sold
out and everyone then was stepping fast to the
swing music furnished by “Bing” Tyler and his
radio phonograph. The saying goes, however,
that all good things have to come to an end and
so the Carnival was ended and will ever remain
in the memory of those who attended.
Girls Elect House Officers
On Wednesday and Thursday evenings of
Oct. 16 and 17, the girls of Winona hall gathered
together by classes to elect house officers for the
year. The voting took place on Friday.
The candidates chosen were Mary Wolftail and
Rosemary Aubrey for the juniors; the sophomores
chose Helen George; the freshmen will be re
presented by Shirley Douthit; the seniors chose
Anna Miles and Marjorie Pablo.
Later the girls elected Anna Miles as president,
Mary Wolftail as Vice-President, and Marjorie
Pablo as secretary.
Girls Athletic Association
Something new for the girls this year is the
“Girls Athletic Association” which is under the
direction of Gwen Griffith of the Willamette
University. This club meets each week on Mon
day from four o’clock to five o’clock and so far
has attracted 45 girls who now answer to the
roll calls. Of these members the following officers
were chosen at the recent election: President,
Alyce Spencer; Vice-President, Arlene Miller;
Secretary, Wilda Williams; Treasurer, Luella
Wilson; Social Chairman, Lillian Case.
During the year the girls will be playing such
sports as basketball, volley-ball, soft-ball, and
other minor sports including badminton, ping-
pong, tennis and darts. When the girls have par
ticipated in these sports and have earned the num
ber of points required, at the end of the year they
will be awarded the official letter “C”.
On week-ends this group of girls will go on
hikes, skating, weiner and marshmallow roasts
and such parties as that. Later on they hope to
arrange to take a trip to the state capitol in Sa
lem.
If you would like to join this organization it
is’nt too late yet but the “deadline” will be some
time the first of this month. This club isopen to
any girl of high school age or any eighth grader.
If you are intending to become a member you’d
better join now.

their costumes. The little boys are making an
airplane book containing airplanes and their dif
ferent parts.
The sixth and seventh grade classes of Miss
Chambers have been raising rabbits.
The class of Miss Hall has been taking care
of chickens and they have also prepared pick
les, and apple-butter, and apple-jelly.
