    entertainment. After supper there wasareoccur-
ance of the noon activity and the boys once more
had to get out and show their wares.
At night a dance was held and all boys were
present----- still wearing the feminine attire. They
“broke the ice” on the first dance and most of
them stayed out there for the rest of the evening.
Sunday morning was practically a continuation
of the Saturdays’ ordeal---minus the skirts.
The boys were taken to the gym where they
went through the ‘ ‘spats, ’ ’ tumbled down into the
cellar, were drenched with water and were hind­
ered in numerous other ways.
By noon the last boy walked out of the gym,
happy, proud and eligible to wear the Chemawa
“C”.

Federal Employees Union
On September 23, the members of the Federal
Employees Union Local 241 met at the Practice
House to plan their program for the year. A
drive is now on for new members. The next bus­
iness meeting will be held the first week in Nov­
ember,at which time we hope to see our member­
ship doubled.
Many Employees Attend Fish Bake
Q
A place called Whale Cove, about one and one-
half miles south of Depoe bay, was the scene of
a salmon bake, which attracted a large crowd on
September 26-27.
Mr. Rueben Sanders and Mr. James took
charge of baking the fish, which was baked on
an open fire. On Saturday, the crowd totaled
about 250, but on Sunday, the last day, there
was a crowd of 600 or more in all.
Miss Ileana Simmons of Siletz, Oregon, was
chosen as Queen of the affair.
Mr. Sanders entered the Bow and Arrow Con­
test and won first place for which he was pre­
sented with a beautiful trophy.
Lettermen Initiate New Members
Moving Pictures Shown
On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Chemawa Letter­
mens’ Club initiated 27 members into its organ­
ization.
Initiation officially began at. about 6:00 a.m.,
when the boys were required to don girls’ skirts
and blouses. Each boy had to wear the name of a
girl on his back and he also had to carry an egg
around all day.
After the noon lunch, practically the whole stu­
dent body stayed to watch the blushing and self-
conscious boys sing, dance and perform various
Sunday evening, September 14, some moving
pictures were shown in the auditorium by Mrs.
Jackson. These pictures were of the Pendleton
Roundup, and of work projects on the campus.
Others shown were some pictures taken by Mrs.
Jackson on an airplane trip over Salem, Mt.
Hood, and the Chemawa School.
The Bridge Club met at Kola Tepee on the
evening of October 6, to make plans for the year.
The club will meet on the second and fourth Mon­
day of each month.
