From the Vocational Departments
C arpentry : The carpenters have reshingled
Mr. Frye’s house and will soon reshingle Mr.
Berry’s. Alby made the screen doors for the
bakery. Jake and Dilts are making bookcases.
Grant has made a standing picture frame espe
cially to show the people in Alaska.
P aint S hop : The painters are repainting the
beds from the hospital. This time Ducco paint
will be sprayed on by the use of a spray gun.
They are going to varnish the floor of the new prac
tice cottage when the other workers are through.
E lectric S hop : The electricians have helped
tidy the campus by painting the telephone poles
green and taking the slack out of the outside
lines. They recently installed a new range outlet
for Miss Peters and a new air compressure for the
N.Y.A.
B arber S hop : The barbers are nearing the
finishing line by cutting the hair of the grade
school students. All the boys are doing fine in
studying the barber science. Melvin Wounded-
eye will be the only one graduating from the
barber shop this year.
T ailor S hop : Mr. James is back in the shop.
The tailors made pennants for “jolly up” awards.
Has anyone noticed any “college pants?” It’s a
fad spreading as conventional wear.
M achine S hop : These boys have been fixing
up the welding table. The shop has had many
improvements made. The boys are doing fine
work and are busier now, too. They have been
taking the old paint off some beds.
A uto S hop : The mechanics have put new tires
on the bus and truck. They rebushed the front
end of the bus, and fixed the fender of the new
V-8. Mesplie and Wilder tuned up a model T.
Roswell and Brown painted the pick-up. Shorty
adjusted the carburetor on Mr. Abraham’s car.
B akery : The bakers, with outside orders and
daily production, are kept busy. Edden and
Beaudry made cobbler, cookies, and rolls for the
Boy Scouts. Rice and Cassimere made the cookies
for the Freshman picnic and reception. S. Wil
liams, exbaker, made wafers for the Junior-Senior
Prom. Joseph and Gardipee make daily produc
tion. Sorrenson, if serious, can really roll dough.
F oods : All girls in Miss White’s Foods
Class have been very busy trying to complete
their plans for the last semester.
The seventh grade girls have finished the study
of breakfasts and have been divided into three
groups. Each group has prepared and served a
breakfast for the other members of the class and
have also invited guests. The guests were Miss
Thompson, Mrs. Sanders and Mrs. Johnson.
After completing the study of school lunches,
the 11-A girls packed an ideal school lunch and
went for a picnic. They also prepared trays for
the sick. The flowers used on the trays were lat
er sent to the hospital. We were also glad to
send several jars of jams and jellies which we
canned last fall. We have just finished baking
dainty cookies and nut bread to be used for the
reception to be given Sunday night for the D. A.
R. We also baked cakes for the shower given
Tuesday evening in honor of Mrs. Pepper. We
are now planning our final dinner to be given
soon.

The two very excellent Sunday afternoon band
concerts.
The fine music by the orchestra at chapel on
April 20, and the nice reception given by the
Freshmen for Judge Rossman.
The first Community Sing by the students,
which was very excellent.
The improved condition of the rooms in
McNary hall under the leadership of Mrs. Cornick.
The nice flower beds down by the power house
which the firemen have arranged.
The splendid showing that our 4-H Club girls
made in Home Making and Sewing at the Mar
ion County Exhibit. Congratulations’^ Helen
George, Emily Kaka, June St. Peter and Elsie
Penn.
The excellent discussion held by the students
at Kola Tepee, on improving school spirit.
The honor that has come to Betty Boyd and
Chuck Lawrence in the privilege of attending
the Chilocco Youth Conference.
The careful workmanship being done by Mr.
L. Thomas and his N.Y.A. boys in finishing up
the new cottage.
The good job Mr. Mason’s carpenters are do
ing in reshingling two of the cottages.
The improved plan being carried out in the shoe
shop for handling shoes from the different build
ings and getting them repaired and returned
promptly.
