From the Vocational Departments
C arpentry : Foreman “ Buster” Lodge, with
his crew, “ Bet” Bearchum and “ Mabe” Teton,
put the finishing touches to the new chicken
house, when “ Jake” Enick had to quit so that
he could enroll in the radio school. The fore
man says, “ Bring on the chickens.”
In addition, the new boys now taking up car
pentry are learning fast. They repaired broken
furniture, made the “ Keep Off the grass” signs
for the campus. They are now about ready to
take on any kind of work from “ soup to nuts.”
“ Curley” Davis, tall, dark, handsome, over
grown kid from Washington, is a new boy in
the trade. He is doing nice work in making
many fine frames for his friends. So if anybody
would like a good frame see Preston.
“ Mount” Douthit and “ Grace” Whitford are
building sink cabinets for the new practice house.
M achine S hop : Under the supervision of
head foreman Berger and “ Gob” Maxwell the
machine shop boys have completed making a
table for the bakery. They have welded in a new
steam outlet in the steam heating system in
Winona hall.
A uto M echanics : “ Hook” Bobb recently
repaired the windshield swiper on the blue V-8
government car. “ Owl” Mesplie is overhauling
Mr. Berry’s Lincoln Zephyr. Foreman Wilder
is also overhauling Doug Olds’ “tin lizzie,” and
“ Tony” Van Pelt is the tool boy for this week.
T ailor S hop : All of the boys that were learn
ing how to make pockets and button holes are
now learning how to make pants and are doing
nice work. Clarence LaRocque and George Quin-
tasket are doing good’work making coats. George
Bearcloud is working on a pair of white flannel
pants.
M anual T raining For the past two weeks the
seventh and eighth grade boys have been study
ing simple blue print reading or “ working sketch
es.” After the first week each boy made his own
drawing showing measurements—height—length
width—and thickness of wood and kind of wood
to be used. This week a number of boys will start
work of farm project equipment, which includes
two milk stools, one apple and handy ladder, one
10-foot step ladder, one nail and staple box, and
one chicken feed box.
B akery : Since the CCC-ID boys are going to
stay here for three months the bakers have to put
out more bread and pastries every day. There
have been so many dances and activities going
on every week-end we have been k e p t pretty
busy making doughnuts, cookies, etc.
B arber S hop : The Barbers established a new
record last Friday, January 30, when they cut
exactly 48 heads of hair in two hours and thirty
minutes. Roswell Edenshaw left the Barber shop
to take up Auto Mechanics. Mike Finley sharp
