On February 25, 1923, in Yakima, W ashing
ton, two tiny mites of joy filled the air with loud
cries announcing that they had arrived twins. One
of these twins cried louder than the other and
naturally she grew up to be Margaret F. Skahan.
After spending seven years in Toppenish, W ash
ington, learning her “ readin,’ ‘ritin’, ‘n ’ ‘rith-
metic,” Margaret started her eighth grade in a
small country school on the coast. It was during
this same year that she journeyed to Chemawa,
where she has been each of the following school
years. She is majoring in commercial and will
finish high school in the spring. Margaret’s am
bition is to be a stenogragher or business woman.
“ Moogie,” as her many freinds call her, has a
smile for everyone, and is always willing to lend
a helping hand. Her hobbies are collecting pic
tures, postcards and writing poetry. “ Moogie”
likes to swim, dance and cook, and can usually
be found reading a mystery book. We all join in
wishing that “ Moogie’s” highest ambitions and
dreams may be fulfilled in the years to come.
Mr. Alvin “ Hook” Bobb was born in the
quaint little town of DaConner, Washington, on
a frosty December morning in 1922.
During his first eight years in school he went
to Tulalip Indian School. He entered Chemawa
as a freshman four years ago to specialize in
Auto Mechanics. His greatest ambition is to be
come a good mechanic.
For entertainment he likes to read and to see
the movies which are his hobbies. His favorite
books are written by Zane Grey.
This is his second year in the Dettermen’s Club
He earned his letters in baseball, which is his fa
vorite sport. During the summer he plays for his
home team, that won their league championship
in 1939. To Alvin, we wish success as an Auto
Mechanic and as a baseball player.
In Dodge Grass, Montana, Frank Backbone
was born. Entering the Dodge Grass public school,
he finished nine grades before coming to Che
mawa, where he is now studying to become a car
penter, but his greatest ambition is to become a
professional basketball player.

Playing the guitar is his hobby. He also erijoys
the movies and reading western books by Z a n e
Gray.
He is a member of the Hi-Y and Detterman’s
Club. He likes basketball best of all s p o r t s ,
although he does play baseball and was a mem
ber of our track team. At Dodge Grass, while a
freshman the team he was on took District and
Southern Division Championships,and s e c o n d
place in the state tournament. Playing two years
at Chemawa, he has been on the All-Valley All-
Star team twice, and set the WVI scoring record
both years.
He is Oregon’s highest scorer,
and helped the team (He was the captain) to go
to the District Tournament last year. This team
went on to take fifth place in the State Tourna
ment. To “ Frankie,” we wish much success as
a carpenter and a basketball player.
