day’s absence to Tacoma, Washington.
Nema Hogsed invited three students to her
home for the Thanksgiving week-end. Those
invited were Thelma Shane, Sophie Thadie, and
Helen Desautel.
On November 22, the Sophomores, Juniors,
and Specials spent their playnight enjoying Folk
Dances. Among the favorite dances were the
Virginia Reel, Square Dance, and “ Bouncing
Along in the Old Brass Wagon.”
An Armsitice Day program was given in the
auditorium on November 11th, in charge of the
Council. After the flag salute, and the singing of
“ God Bless America,” Mr. Wallace Worton, of
Salem, gave the students a very interesting talk.
The girls in the Senior Foods class prepared
and served a very tempting Thanksgiving dinner
on Novembr 14th. They served escalloped chick
en, and all the trimmings. The tables were dec
orated with red and white crysanthemums and

Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day at Chemawa found every
student thankful that he had the opportunity to
attend this school. The day was a very perfect
one, and the air crisp and cool.
The day began with a late breakfast. Church
services were held for the Protestants immediately
after breakfast. There were games in the gym
for the smaller boys and girls. Dinner was
served at one o’clock, and each student heartly
enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving dinner—
turkey and all the trimmings. The orchestra
entertained during the dinner hour w ith v e r y
splendid selections.
At two-thirty, the older boys and girls en
joyed a dance in the gym until four. After a little
rest, supper was served at 5:30 and the rest of
the evening was spent in the various dormitories.
At Winona hall, the girls practiced for an Ama
teur hour.
In this issue, the student body wishes to ex
press its thanks to all those who made Thanks
giving Day so much more enjoyable for all.

Chapel Program
Dr. P. O. Riley of Salem gave the students a
splendid lecture on “ Liberty” at chapel, Sunday
evening, November 17. He spoke as an experi
enced man, telling the great difference between
foreign policies and American policies concern
ing liberty. He also gave the students a view
point of “ Old Glory.”
Following chapel, the Juniors held a reception
at Winona hall which was very e n t e r t a i n i n g .
Many employees and class members attended the
reception. After refreshments,an enjoyable pro
gram was presented. George Quintasket gave a
reading, Kathryn Jones sang an Indian song, and
Lawrence Alby played a saxaphone solo.
Marie Mount is “ all smiles” lately, and who
wouldn’t be, making a “ comeback” ? Maybe
Rosebud is happy too!.
