CHEMAWA VICTORIOUS
IN FIRST HOOP GAMES
Boxers PunchTheir Way Through
Several Battles
On Wednesday, Dec. 1, Chemawa jour
neyed to Canby to open the baskeball
season.
Canby started swiftly and it looked as
though the Indians were in a fair way
to lose their scalps. But captain Bud Arc-
hambeau and that lanky Alaskan lad
Frank Bolton found their shooting eyes
and the team forged into the lead.
They were never headed and won easily
by a score of 48 to 22.
Little Buddy Archatnbeau played his
usual brilliant game and the opponents
could not check him.
Frank Bolton starred by sinking 16
counters.

Bolton overwhelmed Turner here Friday
December 3 in a lopsided game.
With Bolton wielding the brush^to the
tune of 30 points the squad posted a
72 to 31 win.
' The two new men, Frank Bolton and
Henry Scalpcane, have done the lions
share of the work so far with Scalpcane’s
snappy passes and Bolton’s eye the team
should make the state tournament this
year.

^ C h ic o ” Norton also won easily. This
is Norton’s first year and has been high
point man, scoring 31 points in two
games This is the “ B” team’s second
win also as they scored 43 points to the
opponents 11.

In a thrilling game at Salem, Dec.3, the
Chemawa All-Stars lost a hard game to
General Finance, last year’s champs.
The Indians proved worthy foes to the
ex-college stars when they lead through
a large part of the games.
Sam Shoulderblade swished the net for
11 counters and high point honors for
Chemawa while Peron Oveville, lanky
center for Finance, hit the basket for
16 points.
The game was hard fought througout
and the outcome was-in doubt until the
final minutes of the game when General
Finance staged,,a rally to put the game on
ice.

The All-Stars wpn their second start
Monday, December 6, against the
Mathi’s Roofers of Salem.
Led by Captain Alvin Amera who tal
lied 19 points for his evenings work,
the All-Stars won the thriller from Salem
by a score of 52 to 44
Although Sam Shoulderblade didn’t
get high point honors he played the
best floor game seen here for many a
moon. Single handed he time and again
took the ball from the ópponents and
finally emerged with 11 points. Petty
James, starting guard, was unable to play
because of a couple of dislocated fingers
in the Finance game.

The teams which presented a united
front to opponents all year formed two
war parties, Thanksgiving Day, and
attacked each other on the gridiron.
All morning they pushed and slipped
up and down the field only to tip 7 to 7.
As this didn’t settle the matter they de
cided to carry the war on to the basket
ball court. So in the afternoon t h e
“ River Rats” sunk the “ Mud hens” by
a score of 15 to 7. So the losers grace
fully but not so tunefully sang “ Home
on the Range” at the student’s dance.
