CHEMAWA MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS
i ENTERTAIN BRUSH COLLEGE GRANGE
On Friday evening, January 8, the
girls’ sextette, the boys’ sepolte, and
the school orchestra went to Brush Col
lege to entertain grange members of that
community,
The program given by these groups
-consisted of several numbers by the girls’
sextette, numbers by the boys’ septette,
and solo numbers by Francis Thomas,
the boys’ soloist. The school orchestra
entertained with three selections during
the evening’s program.
-The students who participated in. this
musical program were well received by
the appreciative grange audience who in
turn favored the Chemawa group with a
well prepared dinner.
YW CA Notes
The-YW CA had a wonderful time
when they met last Sunday morning.
Our president mentioned something about
the mid-year conference tó be held in
Corvallis on Jan. 29. The rest of the
period was spent in singing -conference
songs and rounds. Some new members
were added to the roll call.

PENTATHLON CHAMPIONS
Newberg was no match for Chemawa ip
speed. Regardless Of the score, the game
was exciting to watch and it kept every
one on his feet.
A1 Bighorn of Chemawa led with a total
of 16 poipts with Ztindle makipg 12.
The final score was 42 to 28 in the In
dians favor.

The students remaining here during
Christmas, were entertained every after
noon in the gym by inter-class activities
for "both boys and-girls.;
The girls activities consisted of a po
tato race, basketball dribble, sack race,
Indian club race, three legged race and'
a basketball game. The boysTactivities
consisted of rope climbing, wheelbarrow,
race, horse and rider relay, horse and
rider jousting, boxjpg, wrestling, shoe
race and a basketball gam e..
Much competition was shown among
the players, but the Seniors proved them
selves worthy of being the undefeated
team which made them champions. The
small but mighty freshmen placed sec
ond, the juniors third, and the sopho
mores came fourth.
The last afternoon, a team composed
of Freshman and Sophomores played a
team Of Juniors and Seniors, „The upper
classmen won this contest on New Year’s
Day.
The Chamawa Redskins defeated Hub
bard high, Tuesday, January 5, on Hub
bard’s floor. Coach Wilder’s hoopsters
were in good form and made the going
tough for the Hubbard, team. In the
-first quarter the Indians led 12 to 2. At
the end of the first half Chemawa led 30
to-13. Earnest Bighorn and Bud A r|
chambeau, were exceptionally “ hot,’"
an d led th e Indians for high point hon
ors, with 23 and 22 points. In the last
two minutes of play Hubbard got going,
but the Indians had too much of a lead
for them to catch up. The final score was
Chemawa 53, Hubbard 3Q.
