PUGILISTS SHOW GOOD FORM
In their first real bout of the year the redskins
showed some excellent form and tied the Salem “Y”
last Wednesday. The boxers are under the direction
of coach Rickard, a past master of the game, have-
ing been the man about town in the apple district at
Inchelium, Washington.
In a main eventer, Peter Seltice, burly Chemawa lad,
showed some mean technique and a healthy punch to
cleanly knock out Tommy Winslow, a. former marine
fighter, in the second round of a feature match at the
Salem Y. M. C. A. Pete was hardly touched in the
first round which was easily his on all counts.
Ray Griffin, 120, Salem scored a technical knockout
over David James, Chemawa.
James Tory, 158, Chemawa, was given a decision
over Wilbur Traglio, Salem.
Jim Rogers, 157, Salem, was given a decision over
Ben Palmer, 160, Chemawa.
Henry Newman, 145, won easily from Wallace Zün
dle, 145, Chemawa. Newman had too much reach for
Zundle and Wallace was unable to get in any blows.
REDSKINS TAKE SOUTHERN JAUNT
Chemawa 29, Myrtle Creek 28.
On the first day out from Chemawa the braves en
countered Myrtle Creek, and unlooked for piece of
competition which almost upset the dope bucket.
However, George Vanderburg, one of last year’s “B”
flashes pulled the “meat” out of the fire and the result
was a hair breath score, 29 to 28.
Chemawa 10, Ashland 37.
Ashland not only scalped the braves but also rub
bed salt in the wound! They defeated the braves
handily and with ease. The Ashland group were a
tall quint, the team averaging in height of over six
feet.
Chmawa 18, Medford 30.
The first game with Medford was a plain slaughter
with the Burghermasters sinking long shots from all
corners of the gym as if there were no one on the floor
but themselves.
Chemawa 24, Medford 25.
The braves finally awoke to the fact that Medford
was about to give them two drubbings in a row and
they decided the Burghermaster’s couldn’t do it.
The citizens of Medford said that this game was
one of the best they had ever seen for sometime. How
ever, the braves came back with that well known “em-
ty sack”. Even if they didn’t win they gave all they
had toward the winning of every game and never once
let up in any part of the tilts.
Sam Shoulderblade
was high point man on the trip. A lot of credit goes
to Matt “Grayson” Adams, who helped keep the score
down to the minimum by his excellent checking.
This is Matt’s first year in basketball and with a little
more experience will prove an exceptional player.
The braves who made the trip were: Matt Adams,
Joe Russell George Vanderburg, Edward Case, Sam
Shoulderblade, Edward Archambeau, Capt. Pressley
Labreche, Dave Archambeau, Willie Spotted Eagle
and Noble Sanderville. They reported a wonderful
trip and are looking forward to another.
CLINGMEN LOSE FIRST MATCH
Salem high grapplers added another to their list of
mat victories yesterday afternoon when they took
nine out of 12 matches from the Chemawa wrestling
team.

cision from Dedman, Salem.
108 pounds: Saito, Salem, two falls from Bostwick,
Chemawa.
115 pounds: Jones, Chemawa, two falls from Beall,
Salem.
121 pounds: Kaneko, Salem, fall from A. Pepion,
Chemawa; Frye, Salem, decision and fall from R. Pep
ion, Chemawa.
129 pounds: Clark, Salem, two falls from Cham-
paigne, Chemawa.
