LOCALS
Superentindent Ryan made a business trip to Port
land last week.
Francis Thomas rendered a solo at the Jason Lee
Memorial Church in Salem last Sunday. He was ac
companied at the piano by Elsie Smith.
Mr. Orin Wallace, a Willamette University student,
is a new edition to the school orchestra.
He plays
the violin and also assists Mr. Melovidoff with the Wil
lamette University band.

Mrs. Wilcox was hostess at a five course dinner at
the “Spa” Thursday evening in honor of Miss Eakin
and Miss Judd. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ryan, Mr.
and Mrs. Shawver, Mr. and Mrs. Mason, Mr. and Mrs.
Melovidoff, Mrs. Hankins, Miss Semanski, and Miss
Newell.
Mr. O. V. Money, a gentleman from Portland, was
a week-end guest at Chemawa.
Elizabeth Arquette has secured employment and
and will go outing Wednesday. She is a Home Ec
student.
Dr. Boyd M. Richardson, eye, ear, nose and throat
specialist, who has been here the past two weeks ex
amining our students is leaving the service at the end
of this month. He will resume his residence at Phoe
nix, Arizona.
Shortly after the war a young man arrived at Che
mawa and enrolled here. Supt. Hall, who was in
charge of Chemawa at that time but who has since
passed over the Great Divide, was quick in percieving
that this lad had something above the ordinary and
encouraged him in every way possible. Today this
man is known as Lt. Cruz F. McDaniels and he holds an
L L B. degree—Cruz has justified the predictions of his
many friends. A recent letter to Chemawa friends
discloses that he is now employed in the Indian Service
at Concho,Okla, being the head of the lease department
at that agency.
The American is happy to pub
lish such a record for one of our formers students.
In chapel Sunday October 14, hymns were sung by
the assembly. The orchestra followed with a selection

STUDENT COUNCIL
The student council met for the first time in Win
ona hall Wednesday, October 17. The main object of
this meeting was to elect officers. The officers were
elected as follows: James Dupuis, president; Sam Scott,
vice-president; Gertrude Adams, secretary; John Spen
cer, treasurer.
PRACTICE HOUSE
The Practice House girls enjoyed a week-end trip to
the coast; leaving October 13, returning the follow
ing evening.
To our disappointment our time has expired all
too quickly, however, our long stay was beneficial
as well as an enjoyable one.
We had a farewell party Friday October 19.

together there were, including Miss Cronk, twenty
who were present at the party. A good time was had
by all. A light lunch was served at the end of the
evening.
MUSIC CLUB
On September 26, the girls music club had their
first meeting for the purpose of electing officers and the
following were elected:
Mary lyall, president;
Margaret Arcasa, vice-presicdent; Margaret Law,
secretary; Velma Hayward, reporter; Mary Chamber-
lain, Elsie Smith, Alfreda Swan, Velma Hayward,
program committee.
After electing officers we had an impromtu program.
We have 19 members and we are looking forward to
interesting meetings.
‘•CAMPUS TROUBADORS”
The Campus Troubadors’ certainly went over in a
big way with the student body Saturday evening,
October 13. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves
at the dance. Who wouldn’t help feeling full of pep and
rythm when the Troubadors’ are at hand once again.
These are the persons who make up this wonderful
organization of ours; Eblyn Weeks, Edward “Buck”
Jones, James Andrews, Roy Track, “Red” Fox, Dan
Motanic, James Dupuis and Naomi Mespli.
