Last Thursday evening the boys’ and girls’ music
clubs held a joint meeting in the school building. A
program that revealed hidden talent galore in both
organizations made up the entertainment for the even
ing. The first half of the program, given by the
girls, was as follows: vocal duet, "Indian Dawn,”
Mary lyall and Alice Bachman; Evelyn Whitebear
sang a song and accompanied herself on the ukelele;
Catherine Bailey read the biography of the famous
composer Johann Sebastian Bach; Naomi Mesplie and
Mrs. Turney played a piano duet, "Comrades Waltz”
and Marceline Seltice rendered a piano solo, "Sun
shine." The boys then took the floor and gave the
following selections; A Hawaiian trio, Collins Ander
son, Francis Thomas and Charles Butler; vocal quar
tet, "Gipsy Fiddles;” two vocal solos by James Rosa
rio and Billy Orr and the final number by the orches
tra and the boys, ensemble entitled "That Co-ed
Party”.
NEWS NOTES
Ata sophomore class meeting recently the girls pre
sented a play the setting of which was an old fashion
ed country school. All the students dressed to fit the
part and the audience enjoyed the sketch very much,
we are informed.
The following interesting item from Alaska was
written by Reno Booth, a former student: "The Re
liance Activity Club of Metlakatla. Alaska, recently
sponsored a very elaborate Hallowe’en carnival dance.
The affair was a social highlight in these parts. The
members sang good old Reliance songs which took us
back to dear old Chemawa. Alaska’s pride, the Che-
mawans. furnished the music (the best obtainable any
where in this part of the country) for dancing. We
are still upholding Chemawa in every way.”
On November 10, the girl> taking Cosmetic Therapy
had a finger-wave contest in the beauty salon. Two
girls from each group were chosen. Catherine Bailey
won from her opponent, Elizabeth Polotkin, Evelyn
Sandberg and Delphine Swann tied, and Elsie Bisson
won from her opponent, Alva Hawley. All the waves
were exceptionally good therefore the judges found it
very hard to make a decision. However they were
very fair in their judging. The house was well filled and
the contest enjoyed by all. We are all anxious to
have another one soon. After the contest all the con
testants and their subjects were invited to refreshments
of ice cream, cake and coffee served by Mrs. Wilcox
and Mrs. Stiff.
