Our string quartet will present a program of master
works at Molalla, Oregon, on the evening of Feb. 26th.
They are also due to play in Salem in the near future.
A telegram received a few days ago byMrs. À. G-
Wilson of Chemawa announced that Mr. Wilson had
arrived safely at Standing Rock Agency, N. D., where
he will be employed for some time.
On the evening of Febuary 8th the orchestra will
play a program at Hazel Green and on the 15th they
are to appear at’ Evergreen. The latter place is near
S.ilverton, while Hazel Green is just a few miles east
of Chemawa.
The chamber music ^concert given by our. string
quartet on Monday evening for the members of our
Senior Glass was well received in every way ’ /^ tis not
'compulsory that any one‘shall attend these concerts.
Next Monday evening the quartet will play for the
Junior class and members should be in attendance not
later than 7 o’clock. Employes are welcome at these
concerts and we were well pleased to see a goodly re
presentation present last Monday evening.
All kinds of weather has greeted us of' late here in
the Willamette Valley; East Sunday when we arose
from our ‘ do.wny couches” we discovered the ground
to be covered with snow. The snow has had a hard
fight of it to exist since and we are all hopeful that it is
waging a losing battle. 'ujNext Saturday is Ground
Ho’g'Day, and they say that his hogship knows' more
about the weather than human beings. Hence we
will soon know what’s to be in the line of weather.
East Saturday was the date of the Winona Society
members’ annual party and a real party it proved to be
in every sense of the word. The decorations made the
large gym seem like fairyland—much time and talent
had been spent in decorating the building. It was a
picture. From start to finish there was not a jarring
note anywhere. The orchestra was on hand to assist
in the pleasing occasion. At the proper^hour delicious
and appetizing refreshments were served—prodigally,
too. * Mr. Klein is advisor for this society and his en
joyment of the affair seemed as keen as was that of the
members themselves. It was a great evening for all.
Something of an innovation took place last Sunday
evening during our chapel hour—the program was -
given by employes. A septet of vocalists consisting of
Miss Judd, Mrs. Reid, Mrs. Lipps, Mrs. Stuart, Mr.
Kirk, Mr. Blackeagle and Dr. Sisco gave most pleasing
numbers during the evening, Miss Judd gave a reading,
Mr. Shepard played a clarinet solo, Mrs. Reid contrib
uted a vocal solo, and thè efforts of all were warmly
endorsed by the student body. Supt. Lipps made a
rèally inspired talk. He started to speak of the im
portance of “politeness” and what it will do for one,
and he so enlarged upon his topic that almost all of
the fundamentals of moral well-being came under re
view. His was a splendid talk. During the evening
the orchestra gave its usual concert number. We be
lieve the excellence of their offerings should move the
employes to further efforts, for they certainly did
splendidly, one and all.

During the past week Walter Iliff visited, briefly, at
Chemawa, for a number of years his home. He came
here as a small boy, now he is a man of the world
enroute’to Peru, South America, where he will have
a position of responsibility as the representative of a
manufacturing concern of the United States.
Chemawa friends have received a letter from Grace
Munson who left school last summer to return to her
home in Alaska. She states that she now regrets that
she ever left the school, as she appreciates the fact
that she is needful of more education than she has
and that she should have continued here until she
graduated. Many of our students will be wise if they
take what Grace writes as a warning for themselves.
She is a bright and talented girl, but, she left too soon.
At any rate, j we trust that despite lack of educational
preparation she may have the good fortune to make
a success of her life;- At best it is vain to repine.
