I Press, a department of the United States Indian School located at Chemawa, Oregon.
The Mechanical work was executed by apprentice-students under the direction of the
Instructor in Printing.
M The cover pages, borders, initial letters, headings, sketches, etc.,
herein shown are largely the work of the Native Indian Art Department of the former Carlisle
Indian School, done under the supervision of Angel Decora, a Winnebago woman, now deceased,
who achieved unusual results in the field of decorative art. These designs illustrate the adapt
ability of native Indian art to practical use, and demonstrate that the American Indian can
contribute something of value to present day culture and civilization.
