The anniversary of the founding of Chemawa ikfnade
a happy event on thé part of the' stu d erit^in d 'em
ployes^ taking .place on February 25 of/each year.
The 45th celebration of the .school’s anniversary took
place on Wednesday last. For the ¿past three years
a contest between th’ëiybcàtional classes as worked
out by ;M'rs. Flora J. Iliff, our principal, has’ aroused
great interest and loyalty. The four vocatiotial
classes contested in class songs, class cheers and
school poems. ’ Ôur studeiit^fook so much interest
and the rendition was so original as well'qg perfectly
done that we publish them as far as our space’will per
mit. All of these songs, poems, etc.,- is the work
pf the Students themselves and practically original.
This is a mdst praiseworthy custom and | brings out
much class pride and’s p ir ite s well as school loyalty.
The “ David” and “ Katie” alluded to in tbe'^enibr
poem refers to'Mr. and Mrs. David Bréiypfy who( were
at the school when it was located at Forest Grove and
who took pâçt In the removal to its present site. Mr.
Brewer died a number of years ago after having been
a valuable and efficient ‘employe; Mrs. Brewer is
still with us/ continuing her excellent work. She is
matron of McBride Hall this year.
The judges in the contest gave the Seniors the first
place in both boys’ and gifls’ division; and the Jun
iors a second place. The Sophomores took third place
in one division and fourth place ip the other division;
the Freshmen took fourth place in the bpy|^,division
and third place in the’g jrls/^ /

In whatever we undertake to do,
And to Chemawa will be true.
Chorus
You can take us away, from Chemawa1.
B utypu can’t take'Chemawa away from us,
You cah’send us ¿away to the end of the world,
But our Chemawa way^ will .follow us.
W e’ife'the .best'i'n theyyest, loyal Seniors/*,
And sunny smiles,¿bn, our faces yo,p,see,; I
We smile all the day at our work or in play, ' .
There’s noth'in’^ t h a t can stop us from feeling so

I t ’s the only thing that can please us,
Send, us way up north with the Eskimos,
But our hearts will be in Chemawa,
Where the good will flows—
You can take us away from Chemawa,
But you can’t take Chemawa from
