H O LID A Y ATHLETICS
H oo Ray! D u rin g the week all th e old scores have
been settled. N obody h u rt and everybody feeling
fine. T h e old fighting sp irit of our an cesto rs cam e to
life, hatch ets were d u g up and the old scalping knife
took on an edge. E ach contest th at was staged for
the week was hotly contested.
T h e box in g and w restling events were m ostly given
decisions as draw s. I t showed a m arked improve*
m ent in th is branch of our ath letics.
M o nday’s card showed the contests betw een Seniors-
Sophom ores vs. Ju n io rs-F resh m en . T h e basketball
gam e betw een the b o y s’ team s resulted in a score of
31 to 15. T h e Senior-Sophom ore gam e betw een the
g irls ’ team s was won by the Sophom ores, 19 to 3.
T h e tug-of-w ar was won by the Ju n io rs an d F re s h m e n .
T u esd a y — A laska vs. S tates in co n tests. T h e b o x
in g and w restlin g events w ere of a fast caliber and
m ost all events got a draw .
T h e basketball gam e resulted in a victory for the
S tates. T h e gam e was a fast one from th e sta rt.
T h e g irls ’ gam e was the second betw een th e Seniors
and Sophom ores, the Sophom ores w in n in g by a score
of 13 to 3.
W ed n esd ay ’s schedule gave th e afternoon to the
R eliance vs. E xcelsiors. T h e basketball gam e was
won by th e R eliance. T h e E xcelsiors won th e tug-
of-w ar.
F rid ay our V arsity had a try -o u t w ith the A n
derson and Brow n basketball team of th e C ity C o m
m ercial L eague. W e won by a score of 20 to 13.

M r. Griffith and Mrs. B aker, teachers, have both
been called to th eir homes on account of fam ily affairs,
th e ir resig n atio n s ta k in g effect December 31st.

p ictu re nooks and o th e r articles dear to c h ild re n .
A phonograph carried over on C hristm as and donated
by th e school will fill m any an hour to cheer th e bed
patien ts.
A nna S exton, now Mrs. R olly-Inm an, of M anly,
Iow a, w rites th a t she has a little d au g h ter, H elen
M arie, th ree m onths old. H er husband is a movie
operator and is doing well.
A stag p arty at th e carpenter shop on T h u rsd ay
last in th e shape of a big d in n er given by M r. Mason
to his large detail of carp en ter boys was a big event.
T he y o ung m en certainly did ju stice to the spread and
wish to th a n k th e ir in stru cto r for his th o u g h tfu ln ess.
A featu re connected w ith the b irth of th e N ew Y ear
at Chem aw a th a t will long be rem em bered by those in
atten d an ce was a breakfast at the home of S u p t. and
M rs. H all. T he invited guests w ere M r. and M rs.
Petri an d M r. and Mrs. T u rn e y . I t was a most d e
licious breakfast and host and hostess were, as they
always are, ch arm in g in every way. T h e guests
found it d elig h tfu lly auspicious as a com m encem ent
of the N ew Y ear.
C hem aw a certainly appreciates the in te re st w hich
Prof. P aul P etri and his estim able wife tak e in our
school. T hey are both high-class m usical a rtists and
stand at the head of th eir profession in th e city of
P ortland. T he com plim entary recital given to o u r
pupils and o thers on S unday evening in o u r a u d ito r
ium will long be rem em bered by all who were fo rtu
nate to be present. Professor and Mrs. P etri are old
friends of Mr. and M rs. T u rn ey and visit them f r e
q u en tly .
Probably the m ost finished all-round en tertain m en t
given at C hem aw a for a long tim e was th a t presented
last F rid ay evening in the auditorium by th e p rim ary
stu d e n ts u n d er direction of Miss Alice Ju d d , teacher.
T h e e n tire p roduction, representing “ A Joke on
S anta C la u s,” by E d ith T illo tso n , was perfectly acted .
T h e sin g in g , im personation and C hristm as cheer
injected into th e play was a delight to the audience
and started our C hristm as holidays out w ith a fine
sp irit. Indeed, we cannot com m end the children nor
Miss Ju d d too h ig h ly . Miss E ak in presided at th e piano.
On N ew Y e a r’s Eve the Ju niors gave a d in n e r in
the dom estic science q u arters in honor of th e S eniors.
T h is was really one of t h i im p >rtant social events of
our holiday festivities. T here are nearly fifty m em
ber« in th e Ju n io r class and not all were p resent, b u t
of course all of the girls who belong to th e class and
who are well up in dom estic science w ork w ere
present and took active parts in m aking th e d in n er
th e big success it proved to be. A fine, pleasing p r o
gram of a m usical and literary character was rendered
and gave great pleasure to all. T h e president of th e
Senior class, Roy C ourville, made a fitting response
to the Ju n io rs in w hich he voiced the appreciation and
th a n k s of the Seniors for the honor show n them and
the perfectly stu n n in g good tim e they had enjoyed.
