On last F rid ay ev en in g tlie y o u n g men of th e E x
celsior L iterary Society m ost d elig h tfu lly en tertain ed
th e ir guests and friends at th e gym nasium . T h e big
hall was m ost artistically decorated w ith p u rp le and
gold crepe paper, sm all trees and evergreens.
U pon en terin g the hall th e y o u n g ladies w ere p re
sented w ith very ap p ro p riate little favors of violets and
b u ttercu p s, the society colors. From th e east end of
the room a big, round moon sm iled dow n th ro u g h the
trees on the guests as they passed softly by and even
peeped across to the m o o n sh in e” p u n ch being served
at the o th er end.
From a spacious platform in the center of the floor,
w hich was p rettily decorated w ith potted plan ts, flow
ers and greenery, and all was su rro u n d e d by a m in ia
tu re w hite picket fence, cam e th e soft, jazzy strain s
of m usic from the o rch estra.
On announcem ent all found th eir way to the b al
cony and th e ir places w here delig h tfu ll refresh m en ts
w ere prepared and served u n d er th e able d irection of
M rs. Brew er.
A fter declaring th a t they had passed one of the
m ost delightful evenings of th e season all skipped
happily hom ew ard w ith ’rahs on th eir lips for the
E xcelsiors.

the fate of W illa m ette’s track team last F riday about
as well as it could be told:

ette track men F rid ay afternoon m a dual track meet
w in n in g by a score of of 78-44. T he In d ian s took
ev ery th in g in w eight events and finished well up in
the sp rin ts. T he relay was the feature, Jackson of
W illam ette passing W arb o n n et, the last Chem aw a
ru n n e r, after the latter had annexed a lead of 15 yards.
C hoate, Chem aw a sp rin te r an d broad ju m p er, was
high point man of th e afternoon w ith 19 points, w hile
Irv in e of W illam ette cam e second w ith 11; F ox, a
frosh distance m an, sp ran g a su rp rise by tak in g th e
half-m ile and finishing second in the mile for W illam
