th e season.

W hile her w ork is m ost difficult

and tenacity of purpose to slick . She will receive her
diplom a n e x t year.
O w ing to an over-abundance of “ c o p y ” we were
obliged to condense m uch of th e m atter th a t reached
us for th is issue, and some th a t cam e in last we were
com pelled to leave out alto g eth er, society notes, for
in stan ce. F rom such d ata as w as handed in we are
certain th a t the societies enjoyed profitable m eetings
— their program s proved it.
T h e ’cello p laying of G eorge B arrett in chapel last
S unday evening when he gave as a solo the “ Song of
In d ia ” by R im sky-K orsakoff, was both a su rp rise and
a delight to all p resen t. I t m eans a lot of good, solid
w ork to give such a ren d itio n , and from m em ory, too.
H e has done exceptionally good w ork d u rin g the past
year and is now g e ttin g com m ensurate resu lts.
T he new Y ” room was form ally opened by a re
ception given recen tly to th e em ployees by the cab i
nets of both associations. T h e room w as p rettily d ec
orated w ith O regon G rape and wild c u rra n t. T h e
presidents of both associations expressed th eir th a n k s
to S upt. H all for his fine co operation and generosity
in giving th e room . A sh o rt m usical program was
also given.

Some tim e ago we were obliged to buy a new feed
pum p for our pow er plant because of the excessive
cost of reb u ild in g th e one in service. At th at tim e
our m achine shop was not in service and for th a t re a
son we were forced to buy a new pum p. Now the
m achinists have taken the pum p and will rebuild it
and w hen finished will have a pum p in all respects as
good as new , th u s saving $250 for our school.
T he Y. W . C. A . had an excellent discussion m eet
in g S unday afternoon, using the topic, “ How and
W hat to R e a d .” H arriet Cain was leader of the
m eeting.

by th e Y . W . chorus.
T he boys of th e R eliance L iterary Society gave th eir
annual party on S aturday evening last, w hich was d e
lig h tfu lly planned in every way for the en jo y m en t of
the 125 persons present. T he big gym was a veritable
lab y rin th of han ging draperies and plants, w ith booths
on eith er side for serving of cold beverages. One end
of the hall was latticed off for cloak room and re fre sh
m ents. An o rchestra from P ortlan d furnished m usic
for th e occasion. A ltogether th e society gave a
splendid party w hich is the subject of favorable com
m ent of all who attended.
DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES
S u p t. H all bought some new linen for our d e p a rt
m ent a d in n er set. W e were glad to get it as we
needed it. It is a beautiful p attern .
“ A ” division w ent out for a picnic the first of the
week, in the afternoon after all the class work was
done. W e had o u r supper out in the woods and had
a good tim e, b u t came home tired.
W e recently had a visitor to our d ep artm en t who is
a g rad u ate of one of the A g ricu ltu ral Schools in K a n
sas. She sp en t some tim e w atching our w ork and
was very com plim entary reg ard in g th e way we w ork.
Such encouragem ent is alw ays help fu l.
W e are already prep arin g for o u r dem onstration
w eek. Several of the girls are m aking paper flowers
of different kinds for decorations. W e are ta k in g up
“ T able and D ining-R oom S ervice” so as to put it into
practice a t our every-day m eals. A fter th at comes
m eats, gelatines and m eat substitu tes. These are
w hat we m ust dem onstrate.
