BE A CONQUEROR
(C o n tin u ed from page 1)
w here, but greatest of all, in th e attain m en t of a com
placent m ind. It transform s th e disagreeable in to the
agreeable, takes the d ru d g ery out of distasteful tasks,
eases the jolts w hich you may receive here and th ere
as you come into contact w ith o th ers, and it is w orth
infinitely m ore th an m oney. You will find yourself
grow ing to a larger, com pleter, boy or g irl, m an or
w om an. C haracter was never intended to be ru in ed
by irritatio n on y o u r p art or on the p art of o th ers. No
person ever g ets along to m uch e x ten t until he learns
to p u t out of th e way the th in g s w’hich trip him up,
so get rid at any cost of the th in g s w hich you th in k
block your progress as you go th ro u g h school, and
afterw ard.
Self is the g reatest stum bling block— our own
selfishness, our desire for com fort, for pleasure.
T im id ity , doubt and fear are great enem ies of m a n
k in d . G u ard your-w eak points; conquer yourself
and you can conquer all o th er th in g s, it m akes a
g reat difference how you approach difficulties. If
you are afraid of them , if you stan d and hesitate,
som etim es you are lost. If you flinch not difficulties
will flee, even tho u g h they are very real and form ida
ble to th e tim id and h esitatin g , and grow larger and
larger to the one who lacks nerve and the rig h t k ind
of m ental attitu d e .
M ost of our obstacles w ould melt aw ay, if, instead
of cow ering before them , we should m ake up our
m inds to walk boldly th ro u g h them . So, young m an,
young w om an, th ere is no reason whv each one of
you should not be th o ro u g h ly conscious of your
pow er and o p p o rtu n ity and m ake th e very best of
them by m ain tain in g a free brain, your m inds u n
burdened, your faculties at w ork.
In conclusion let us say th a t n o th in g develops a per
son so m uch as m eeting every single obligation, real
or im plied, th a t is ever assum ed. T o our stu d e n ts we
w ish to em phasize the fact th at their g reatest obliga
tion rig h t now is to “ m ake g o o d ” atC h em aw a.
