T h e W inonas held a very busy m eetin g on last F r i
day evening p rep arin g th e last a rra n g e m e n ts for
th eir p arty on th e follow ing n ig h t. T h ere w as some
w ork done by each g ro u p on th e co n test song, after
an early ad jo u rn m e n t.

T he E xcelsior L ite ra ry Society had th e ir reg u lar
m eeting on F rid a y , M arch 18th. T h ere was to be a
volunteer program b u t on acco u n t of th e m any
business m atters to be considered, th e program was
postponed, and all business finished u p in stead . T he
critic and th e visitors all gave in sp irin g ta lk s and the
society adjourned.
R eliance
T h e R eliance Society m et in the academ ic b u ild in g
on F rid ay evening. A fter a real live business session,
a good program was ren d ered as follows: R ecitation,
Roderick H ill; jokes, Jam es Songrey and Lloyd
C lem ents. T h e feature of the evening was an open
house debate, "R eso lv ed , T h a t th e Japanese should
hold p ro p erty in th e U nited S ta te s .” T he affirm a
tive side of the question was upheld by A rth u r J o h n
son, A llan S hepard, G eorge N ix , E dw in L iljegren
and Jam es C hoate, w hile Roy N uckolls, W illiam F r a
zier, F red W ilder, Louis Colby and Jones Spencer u p
held th e negative. T h e ju d g es decided in favor of
the affirm ative side. A fter singing th e society song
the house adjourned.

tion of officers took place, w hich resulted as follows:

D u rin g th e chapel session last S unday evening the
o rchestra played " A Dream of S p rin g ” by F la th ,
N ancy M athison sang " T h e B lu eb ird ” by K erry , R e
becca C arp en ter gave a recitation, on request the G irls’
O ctette sang " L ove’s Old Sw eet S o n g ” by M alloy,
E lm er T h e rria u lt gave a reading, th e choir gave as
th eir offering an old W elsh air— " A ll T h ro u g h the
N ig h t” — a u th o r unknown), and S upt. H all gave his
usual S un d ay evening talk. H e chose "C h e e rfu l
n ess” for his subject and presented a m ost logical
m ental p ictu re to all in w hich he em phasized the
value of cheerfulness, of optim ism , to m an k in d . H e
proved the force and powrer of th e cheerful person for
good; proved it one of the w o rld ’s greatest needs and
m a n k in d s’s g reatest assets, although generally greatly
u n d er valued. It was a stro n g talk .

T h e senior class is stu d y in g C h ild re n ’s Diet at the
present tim e.
E lizabeth P oitras and Ione H en ry are m aking th e
cakes, cooking, etc., for the hig h school s tu d e n ts’
lunches th is w eek.
V ictoria S ansaver was cook for th is w eek. H attie
Caytoti did th e serving. Both girls are doing fine
w o rk .
C lara M oráis was th e fo u rth senior to serve her
dem o nstration d in n e r. She served W ednesday noon
to eight guests.
T h is is the last detail for th e senior class. T ak e
heed, therefore, and keep up your daily grades or
your average is going to drop.
Miss G aith er visited the dom estic science d e p a rt
m ent recently and she stated th at a great im provm ent
was very evident since she was here.
H IG H SCHOOL NO TES
G eorge B erry, a form er C hem aw a stu d e n t, was a
visitor w ith ou r boys last week.
T h e class in T ennyson read L ocksley H all and
Lockslev H all S ix ty Y ears L ater.
Elw ood T ow ner, one of ou r U niversity stu d e n ts,
made a h u rried trip to P ortland last S atu rd ay .
T h e baseball and track season is com ing on and a
n um ber of our stu d e n ts can be seen out each day.
A t chapel last S unday evening M r. H a ll gave an
excellent talk on the d u ty and value of cheerfulness.
Ju lia Grom off, one of our high school stu d e n ts,
took first place am ong th e seniors in the prelim inary
contest in hum orous wrork.
E leanor H a u k gave an adm irable recitation before
th e convention of th e D a u g h te r’s of th e A m erican
R evolution w hich w as held in th e H ouse of R epresen
tatives in Salem on F rid ay .
