Moving Pictures
O ur dem onstration meals this week are prepared by
Lillian G au th ier on one division and E stelle F ly n n on
the other. T hey are very creditable to stu d e n ts of
th e 8th g rad e.
T h e dom estic science girls have unusual o p p o rtu n i­
ties to become good cooks. Besides th e cooking of
m eals they get a large practice in b ak in g cakes and
pies. A lm ost every day they sell their baking, m ak­
in g th eir dep artm en t self-supporting.
A nna M iller, one of the class of 1920, is ta k in g
p o st-g rad u ate w ork in dom estic science w ith a view .to
teach in g it to the beginners in th e A laska governm ent
schools. A nna has a splendid o p p o rtu n ity to learn
both th e m ethods of h an d lin g class w ork and the
chance to do practical w ork as well.

O u r sm all laboratory and kitchen is very m uch
crow ded w hen th e seventh grade girls have their
cooking lessons. W e are w ishing for a class-room .
ACADEMIC NOTES
T h e Ju n io rs have been w orking hard of late g ettin g
th eir algebra note-book up to date.
T he T h re e L girls are very busy stu d y in g on their
songs and recitations for the C hristinas holidays.
T h e Sophom ores had a test in history last week and
all are anxious to know who has the h ig h est grade.
'l'he Sophom ores are getting up a good collection of
songs and yells to su p p o rt their team s d u rin g th e holi­
days.
T h e Sophom ore class is not to be outdone d u rin g
C hristm as w eek. T h ey have a g irls’, as well as a
boys’, basketball team th a t will m ake the o th er classes
w ork hard.
In a try -o u t for the com ing class basketball gam es
the girls of the Ju n io r and Sophom ore classes played a
gam e m arked w ith m any spectacular plays on p art of
the Sophies. Since th e gam e th e Ju n io r team has
been stren g th en ed som ew hat and they expect to give
th e Seniors a stiff game.
T h e u su al colony of crow s are again in w inter
q u arte rs a t C hem aw a and are “ h aw k in g ” th e ir heads
off.
A fake fire alarm sounded for drill purposes on
T h u rsd a y proved th a t som e of our firem en need
“ signal p ra c tic e .”
T h e A m erican is pleased to announce th a t the stork
has visited the home of Mr. and M rs. Paul K ininnook
and A lberta Jeanne K ininnook is the th ird m em ber of
th e fam ily. H er arrival was dated December 3rd.
