C om m encem ent has come and gone. N ineteen fine
u p stan d in g you n g men and women have g rad u ated .
T h e w eek ’s program as planned was carried o u t to the
letter and w ith g reat enthusiasm and was by far the
finest com m encem ent held in recent years.
O ur baccalaureate services on Sunday evening were
fine and beautiful. Rev. H . N . A ldrich delivered the
serm on, w hich to g eth er w ith the m usical program , was
in sp irin g . T h e decorations for the occasion were e x
quisite. M any visitors pronounced the serm on as one
of the best they ever listened to. T h e follow ing is the

T h e band concert and full dress parade by the b o y s’
and g irls ’ battalion d u rin g th e afternoon elicited m uch
applause by the large concourse of visitors.
T h e D eclam ation contest on M onday was th e p rin
cipal event, although the baseball gam e between the
E xcelsior and R eliance societies and band concert
were m ost enjoyable. T h e delam atorv contest was a t
tended by a full house and intense interest was show n.
T h e w inners were W illiam F razier, first prize; H attie
M artin, second; and A rth u r Johnson, th ird . T h e
ju d g es w ere Mrs. Della C row der-M iller, Miss S terlin g
and M r. Ronald G lover, all of Salem . Follow ing is

T h e in terclass field sports took up the g reater part of
T uesday m orning and from the rep o rt of the sta rtin g
gun at 9 a. m. to th e very last event at 11:30 the air
was filled with cheers, songs and clapping. It was a
field meet long to be rem em bered. Some records
were broken and every event was of a high class.
T h e boys hart trained faith fu lly . T h e Sophom ores
won the m eet. Jam es C hoate was h ig h est point w in
ner w’ith A rth u r Johnson and Axel Johnson tied for
second place.
