WINONA AND RELIANCE
On Friday evening the Winona and Reliance so
cieties celebrated the last society meeting of the year
by having a joint program in the auditorimn. Allen
Shepard, Reliance president, was in the chair and
Julia Gromoff, Winona president, gave the opening
address. Each society furnished a goodly number of
songs, recitations, dialogues and themes and the time
passed rapidly. It was nine o'clock when the last
song was sung and the last cheer given and all went
home wearing their favors of gold, green, pink and
white, glad yet sorry that the year’s work was ended.
The program follows:

CHEMAWA VS. O. A. C. PRESHMEN
East Saturday our baseball team went to Corvallis
in autos, and were defeated for the second time this
séason by the O. A . C. Freshmen,. 7 to 6. It was a
nip-and-tuck game from start to finish, one side lead
ing and then the other.
.. “ Joe” was going fine in the first game with the
the “ Frosh” and sent 18 of them back to the bench,
but was á little off color Saturday and they found him
for 7 clean hits*, while Scott and Ellis for G . Á . C.
were hit safely.6 times. In the second inning Downie
slammed a lpng fly over the left fielder’s head, with
Bettles on base, for a home-run, making the score 6
to 4 in our favor.
The large crowd of college students and other spec
tators were kept on their toes throughout the game by
the good catches and long hits made by .either team.
In the eighth inning Hauser robbed the Freshmen of
three runs when he speared what looked like a safe
liner made by Tasto and retired the side. Score by inn
ings. -

SENIOR NOTES
Doesn’ t it sound fine“'-the Sunday band concert?
W e seniors say it does!
“ It is not the amount of money you are able to earn
which marks your value as a man, but the honesty
of purpose with which you do your task.” From
Mr. Devol’s address.
On Tuesday afternoon the seniors motored (by
truck) to Salem and had their pictures taken. It was
a glorious afternoon and all enjoyed the excursion.
C o rrectio n — Through the reporter’s mistake the
name of Charles Williams was left off the list of high-
standing seniors last week. Charles has a total aver
age, including outside activities, of 92 1-2.
Practise on the class play is going forward, but we
have sadly missed Marina Nelson for a few days, as
she has been confined to the hospital with ear trouble.
However, we bear she will soon be with us again.
Principal Devol was the feature of the Friday class
period. The program committee had engaged him
to make an address to the class and after a few songs
by the members be gave a most interesting talk. His
subject was, “ W hat makes the real man?’ ’
v Mr. Devol] said in his Friday talk that if each senior
felt that he could take an assigned lessoh and sit down
and make himself get that lesson, he had accomplish
ed a real task; if he could not do this, he had failed.
H e also said that, in h is opinion, the studying habit
here at Chemawa is three hundred per cent better
this year than it was last year;_pupjl.s are studying
Independently and with a personal recognition of a
purpose.
