T h e Senior boys out-shone the girls on St. P a tric k ’s
Day; those b rig h t green collars made a sta rtlin g show .
M uch of th e usual class period was used on last
F rid ay for try -o u ts for th e com m encem ent activities.
Several Seniors have been h elping out on th e te a c h
ing, as C hem aw a is suffering constantly from the
universal dearth of pedagogues.
T h e dom estic science seniors en tertain ed the o th er
m em bers of the class and the teach er at a five-course
d in n e r on th e evening of St. P a tric k ’s Day. T h e
d in n e r room w as b eautifullv decorated w ith the green
and salads and deserts bore touches of the Irish tin t.
T i e four girls w ho en tertain ed did not stop at the
ex cellen t food, b u t at intervals d u rin g th e feast they
sang th e p retty Irish ballads. A fter th e d in n e r sev
eral of th e g uests w ere called upon to en tertain .
C harles W illiam s and M arina Nelson each san g and
G us G artiez recited his “ W o p ” selection so well th at
a second one was necessary. Rose Goff, A n n a M iller,
M arg u erite C ham berlin and R uby W h ite were the
hostesses, w ith Mrs. Brickell as sponsor. It was a
most d elig h tfu l en tertain m en t.

T h e girls of W inona H all are drillin g now .
R uby Stevens left today for her hom e in C alifornia
on account of being ill.
T h e girls of W inona H all are ta k in g interest in
keeping th eir building clean, try in g to win th e prize
for th e th ird year.
M iss M ichell, th e “ b arb er” of W inona H all, was
real busy on M onday afternoon. D o n ’t some of the
sm all girls prove her w ork good?
T h e th ree -L chapter of the Y. W . C. A. are doing
fine w ith th eir m eetings. T hey hope to im prove
rig h t along. N ex t wreek several of o u r m em bers are
going to sign the pledge card.

T h e M cBride girls are sorry to have Louise D em acon
leave.
M rs. C o x ’ son, who has been ill for som e tim e w ith
th e pneum onia, has gone to C alifornia for his h ealth .
M arina N elson, w-ho has been sick in th e hospital
for several days, is im proving and will be w ith us in a
few days.
T h e M cB ride g irls are all grieved over th e d e p a rtu re
of Miss F lorence G ensaw . W e hope th a t she may be
able to re tu rn soon.
T h e M cBride girls are being en tertain ed th is week
by the sweet H aw aiian m usic w hich d rifts w ith the
breezes from th e hospital.
T h e h an g in g baskets w hich were presented by Mrs.
H all to the M cBride girls are greatly appreciated by
them as it adds attra c tio n to the front hall.

T he W inona society had a brief program on F riday
evening consisting of songs by A nna B elgarde, C h a r
lotte B rem ner and Louise G ardipe, and by A nn S ex
ton and Irene M att. C arrie A nderson and N ellie
Braden gave recitations; Lily D ixon furnished local
news and F ran ces F itzp a trick read some local jokes.
Rose F ish er told about S t. P atrick and Ju lia Grom off
gave an interesting In d ian legend. Mr. K irk was th e
official visitor and offered some very helpful su g g es
tions in his talk to th e society. A sh o rt business
m eeting closed th e session.
E xcelsior
T he E xcelsior L iterary Society m et in their usual
m eeting place last F rid ay evening. An opening ad
dress w as given by the P resid en t: C ruse M cD aniels
gave a tiom bone solo; F ra n k C orbett told some up to-
date jokes; W illiam H oopen gave some riddles, w hich
were follow ed by a song by the Society. A n open
h o m e debate was then held, a good m any of th e m em
bers p u ttin g up some good aig u m en ts. T h e m eeting
was closed w ith rem ark s by the advisor.

T he Senior Y . W . C. A. girls have been co nducting
a very in terestin g poster cam paign d u rin g th e past
week in M cBride H all. T hey have featured a series
of posters on “ C orrect S h o es,” “ H ow to S ta n d ” and
“ H ow to W a lk .”
T he L. L. L . ch a p ter of the Y. W . C. A. now has
46 m em bers, T h e girls were delighted last M onday
n ig h t w ith the g ift of th irty new Bibles from S u p e rin
te n d en t H all. T hey have recently ordered fifty new
song books wffiich will m ake th eir m eetin g s very
attractive.
T h e Y. M. C. A . M ission S tudy Class has ju st com
pleted th e te x t b o o k ,“ A ncient Peoples at N ew T a s k s .”
T h is has been a discussion of th e in d u stria l problem s
of S outh A m erica, Ja p an , C h in a, and In d ia, aud th eir
relation to the m issionary program of the ch u rch .
T h e m em bers of the class will give a review of this
book n ext S unday n ig h t at Y. M. C. A. m eeting.
Rev. H arold F . H u m b ert, G eneral Secretary of the
O regon Sunday School A ssociation, gave a splendid
talk before a jo in t m eeting of th e Y . M. and Y. W .
C. A .s last S u n d ay evening. H e spoke on “ T h e
Story of th e B ib le .” M r. H u m b ert is a g reat favorite
w ith Chem aw a stu d e n ts, and he says they are the
most in terestin g audience he has in th e state.
