T h ere was one hour and a-half of o rato ry , em brac
ing pathos, d ram atic effect, trag ed y , hum or and all
effects in th e elocutionary a rt, in w hich the audience
w as en tertain ed and given literary edification of a
h igh order. A t tim es the speakers held the audience
spellbound and carried the listeners w ith them into
d ie land of fancy, realism , im agination and tragedy

C om m encem ent week th is y ear will follow the
usual o rder, w ith a baccalaureate serm on, class play,
g en eral school e n te rta in m e n t, declam ation contest, a
m usicale, to g eth er w ith g ra d u a tin g exercises, athletics,
com petitive drill, etc.
T h e S enior class is now’ a rra n g in g for the annual of
1920, and will visit a p h o to g rap h er in Salem at an
early day in order to secure a photograph of each
m em ber. It is intended to have th e ann u al in the
sam e sty le as the one g o tten out last y ear. Several
in n o v atio n s are planned for the 1920 class.
