Last T uesday afternoon, a week ago, our basketball
hoopers left on a to u r th ro u g h the n o rth ern p art of
the state and in to W ash in g to n and were victorious in
two of th e th ree gam es played.
T uesday evening the Pacific U niversity shooters
opened up w ith a b u rst of speed and took our boys
dow n the line for th e first defeat of the season by the
score 43 to 18. C hem aw a defeated P . U. here and
such a stro n g com eback w as n o t expected. H ow ever,
our bovs were n o t disheartened by the loss of this
gam e and came back stro n g in th e follow ing tw o con­
tests.

W ednesday m o rn in g th e team jo u rn ey ed on to
V ancouver and defeated th e A m erican Legion team
there 39 to 18. T h e gam e started fast and furiously
and the score zig-zagged back and forth and th e con­
test nromised to be a w hirlw ind and anybody s till th e
latter p art of th e half w hen our boys broke away w ith
some fast, snappy passing and m ade two g ran d shots
for baskets and ended th e half 23 to 18 in o u r favor.
In the second half o u r hoopers came back w ith ,™e
same old pep and d eterm in atio n aud netted 16 p o in ts
w hile the L egions converted only th ree fouls, to ta l­
ing the score 39 to 18 in o u r favor.
T h e th ird gam e on th e trip , and th e hardest g^nie
our boys an ticip ated , was w ith th e m uch-tooted S outh
P ark wav team . T h is team is a com bination th a t has
played together for th e last four years and h aa not
m et a defeat in th ree years. T h is was a gam e w here
the Jew and th e In d ia n m et to show his ag ility , speed
and accuracv. A b u n ch of th irty loyal com radestook
up th e trail to P o rtlan d to su p p o rt th eir team w ith
th e ir veils and songs. T h is p u t pep into the v a r­
sity th a t p u t an end to th e conquering heroes and
gave S o u th P ark w ay its W aterloo.
T h e O regonian says: “ In th e speediest basketball

w ay q u in te t last n ig h t on th e Y .M .C . A floor by a score
of 24 to 18. S uperior passing and checking on th e
p art of C hem aw a proved too m uch for th e locals.

w est. Downie and B ettles, tw o forw ards, are fast and

th e class operating in th e dom estic science d ep artm en t.
It is th e largest class yet h andled by M rs. B nckell. I he
m em bers are en th u siastic over th e w ork and in stru ctio n
given and look forw ard to great im provem ent th ro u g h ­
o u t th e present detail.
T h e dom estic science alw ays en te rta in s th e various
v isitin g ath letic team s and it seem s to be well know n
th ro u g h o u t the n orthw est by th e baseball, basketball,
track and football team s th a t C hem aw a excels w hen
it comes to p u ttin g up th e m eals for th e ir benefit. T h e
girls, as well as th eir teacher, handle the m atter ef­
ficiently and w illingly.
O n F rid ay evening the m em bers of th e victorious
basketball team , com posed of R eginald D ow nie, Irv in g
S h ep ard . G eorge N ix , Joe B ettles, Roy N uckolls,
E dw in L iljegren and A rth u r Johnson, w ere e n te rta in ­
ed a t supper, in honor of the able way they did cred it
to C hem aw a d u rin g th eir trip , w hen they won the two
gam es at P o rtla n d and V ancouver. Louise D einacon
and K ath e rin e L oftus acted as hostesses and M ary
M otanic w aitress, w hile th e rest of the class prepared
th e m eal. It was a splendid success.
SENIOR NOTES
M r. Devol ta u g h t senior science w hile Miss H e n d rix
w as sick last w eek.
M arguerite C ham berlin spent the w eek-end in P o rt­
lan d w ith her parents.
H a ttie M artin took ch arg e of the Ju n io r Y. W .s in
the absence of Miss E ak iu last S unday.
M arv W are has had a very artistically d ecorated
blouse in th e dom estic art ex h ib it case recently.

w eek and helped b rin g hom e these excellent scores.
T h e Senior girls are w ell pleased w ith th eir dom estic
science w ork. T h ey say it is h ard , b u t very in te re st­
ing.
T h e senior boys m ade tw o trip s recently to aw ay-

ers and helped w in victory.
T h e g irls’ basketball team is fine th is year and the
class of ’20 is proud of its co n trib u tio n — little Jett,
or Effie Davis, and Rose Goff.

MISS SKIPTON ENTERTAINS
On W ednesday evening M iss S kipton delig h tfu lly
en tertain ed about tw enty of her C hem aw a friTn^® at
h er ap artm en ts. T h e V alentine m otif w as artistically
carried o u t. A m ost enjoyable evening was spent in
g am es and conversation, M r. Bradley and M rs. W oods
being th e successful prize w in n ers, th e prizes consist
in g of a volum e each of one of th e latest books. An
elaborate lu ncheon, such as Miss S kipton know s so
