T h e carp en ters are m ak in g fu rn itu re for th e new
em ployes’ q u arte rs.
T h e p ain ters have repaired a lot of p lasterin g and
they say the end is n o t yet.
T he plum bers have m ade some m uch-needed im
provem ents in th e la u n d ry recently.
T h e new m o ulding bench m ade by th e carp en ters for
th e bakers is m ost satisfacto ry , so the bakers rep o rt.
T h e harness d ep artm en t has m anufactured fourteen
sets of harness since the b eg in n in g of school. Also
580 pairs of shoes.
T he blacksm iths have finished and th e p ain ters have
added the color to the tra sh w agon, and both d e p a rt
m ents w ere given a vote of th an k s by th e y aid detail.
O ur ice p lan t and cold storage is again in operation
after u n d ergoing ex ten siv e rep airs. T h e engineers
are “ busy bodies’’ these days. T hey are alw ays ready
to hear other people w ith th e ir troubles and help out
also.
F ifty -fo u r boys are enrolled in th e m echanical d raw
ing classes and all are interested. T h e atten tio n to the
preli m inar v work speaks well for these young
men. It is a g reat pleasure to add th is d ep artm en t
to the in d u strials.

T hom as Filesteel and Roy C ourville were prom oted
from oilers to shift engineers.
Some very bad leaks have been repaired in the r e
frigeration p la n t, w hich not only stops the leak in the
school p o ck etb o o k but also helps th e operation of the
p lan t.
T h o m as H oaglin and A ndrew F o x were in line for
prom otion so were given th e o p p o rtu n ity to learn to
drive the school tru c k . T h e tru ck will take an active
p art in m oving m aterial for the new b u ild in g .
E xtensive repairs on the boilers in the p lan t are
under w ay, the w ork being done by the boys of the
eng in eerin g d ep artm en t. T h is w ork not only helps
th e p lan t b u t th e experience will also help th e boys in
the fu tu re.

T heresa G ua has finished a beautiful crocheted
luncheon set.
T h e second year vocational girls are very anxious
to sta rt on th e ir blue serge dresses.
T he sew ing room girls had a lesson on sheet and
pillow slip m aking on M onday m orning.
Mrs. C hapm an from Salem reported for d u ty M on
day a. m.
She succeeds Mrs. Jam es.
F riday of each week is given up to needle art and the
girls receive valuable in stru c tio n in home decoration.
T h e m orning talks have been on the sheep, and
other hair-grow ing anim als, and how the world is
clothed.
W e reg ret very m uch the resignation of Mrs. Jam es
from the m ending room . She has been very faithful
and helpful.
T h e n in th and ten th grade girls have com pleted
th eir construction dresses. T h ey have received m any
com plim ents on their w ork.
Polly Pessnikoff, one of ou r sm all girls w ho m ade
the beautiful little dresses last year, has ju s t com pleted
a serge dress. Polly has talen t in th is line of art.
A bout o n e-th ird of th e new detail are beginner!-,
but in terested , p ain stak in g and anxious to follow
in stru ctio n s— three of the qualifications very neces
sary to be successful in any line of w ork.
T h e first and second year vocational girls of the
D om estic A rt D epartm ent are busy w orking on C om
pany B of W inona H all g irls’ spring dresses. W e
have already com pleted th e M cBride H all dresses.
Both divisions of the pre-vocational class have
show n a desire to out-do th e o th er, consequently th e
900 sheets and 800 pillow cases w ere tu rn ed out in
short order. T hey are now w orking on m iddy
blouses, house dresses, d in in g hall aprons, and pillow
cases.

T he F riday class period was a very full one— a good
program followed bv an im p o rtan t business m eeting.
T h e Sophs w ere heard sin g in g a new song about
black and gold a few days ago. M ust be g ettin g
ready to sta rt again in the inter-class track m eet.
T heodore F ayas was w inner in one of th e contests
at the N onpareil party. H is selection of songs was
particularly good.

on crooked and his “ la u n d ry ” bag w eighing him
dow n, ru n n in g to catch u p w ith the next d u ty .

E lizabeth M ontgom ery in open contest in A lgebra
m et and defeated the original 1920 cham pion, T h e o
dore Fayas. T he girls are ju b ila n t, but the boys say
it was an accident and she c a n ’t do it again.

M r. B radley, S u p erin ten d en t of C onstruction, has
been at Chem aw a for som etim e and we have ju st found
out his w eakness, and th a t is basketball. H e and
S u p t. H all are the real fans and backers of our team .
W e certainly appreciate the favors th at Mr. Bradley
has extended to the basketball team .
