LITERARY SOCIETIES
Reliance Society
The regular meeting of the Reliance Literary So­
ciety was called to order by its president, Frank Pera­
trovich on November 2d, at the usual hour in room
six. The reading of the minutes was dispensed with.
Next was the election of officer for reporter, and Wade
Minthorn having received the majority of votes was
declared elected. No further business being presented
the following program was rendered: Opening ad­
dress, President Peratrovich; declamation, Roy Nuck­
olls; impromptu, “ A Summer’s Experience” , Joe Bet­
tles; guitar solo, Tom Phillips; songs, Society. After
a few remarks by various members the house adjourned.
Mrs. Pendergrass, the official visitor, was present.
Excelsior Society
The Excelsior Literary Society held their regular
meeting in the school building on November 2. Vice-
president Robert Downie took the chair. After reg­
istration of membeisand other business was disposed
of the following program was rendered:
Opening remarks, Robert Downie; recitation, Henry
Campbell; song, Henry Campbell, Francis Boyce,
Edwin Rousselle, Julius Frank; reading, Edwin Rous-
selle; current events, Logan Fann; music, Wallace
Beebe. After the program several yells were given
then we adjourned.—Edwin Rousselle, Reporter.
Winona Society
After the completion of business left over from the
previous meeting, the president administered the oath
to new officers and required the new members to re­
peat the oath of alegiance. She then read the consti­
tution to the society, explaining and emphasizing
certain parts. The remaining part of the hour was
filled by volunteer numbers from Doris Hoxie and
Thelma Green. The spirit of loyalty which always
prevails in this organization of girls manifested itself
in the earnestness with which the program committee
took up its new work.
Nonpareil Society
The president called the house to order and the sec­
retary read the minutes of the last meeting. Old
business was renewed and new’ business transacted,
then the following program was rendered:

After the program was finished the girls gathered
around the piano and practiced society songs until it

ten telegram; Mr. Downie for recognizing the identi­
ty of owners of feet; Miss Woods for inability to blow
out the candle of fate.
Altogether the function was a most delightful one,
and the committee who so cleverly planned the affair
and carried it out so well deserve much credit. The
committee consisted of Mr. Roberson, Miss Wooten
and Miss McFadden, assisted by Mrs. Hall.
