M r. M cN ickle of St. Ig n atiu s, M ontana, visited his
dau g h ters R u th and F lorence last w eek. H e is much
pleased w ith Chem aw a.
T h e carp en ters, m asons, plum bers, blacksm iths and
painters p u t in some good w ork in g iv in g th e finishing
touches to th e au ditorium last w eek.
T h e boys in th e tailo rin g d ep artm en t were so busy
last week pressing and cleaning uniform s th at th ere
was no tim e for pressing civilian suits.
Lillie P alm er, of the em broidery and fancy needle
w ork class, com pleted a p air of em broidered bluebird
design pillow cases, and a bureau scarf to m atch.
M uch in terest is centered th is week on the g ath erin g
of arg u m en ts and p rep arin g generally for the debate to
be given by the eighth grade pupils on the ju ry system .

T h e stu d en ts of Chem aw a are still hop in g th a t Mr.
and M rs. Jaq u in s will re tu rn . W e need them here at
C hem aw a and have missed them very m uch since th e ir

A gnes L aR ance is m aking good progress in th e small
sew ing room . She says th a t the sew ing in stru ctio n
is very pleasing and she will miss her w ork th ere w hen
the detail changes.
T h ere has been a little change in the tim e for society
m eetin g and stu d y hour. Society m eeting will now
com e on T h u rsd a y and stu d y h o u r on T u esd ay and
W ednesday.

girls m ade six pies for Mr. M itchell, In d u stria l T e a c h
er. H e has about tw enty-five boys on his detail to
whom he gave a trea t.
A le tte r was received from D orothy T alb o t, an e x
stu d e n t, w ho states th a t she is d oing very nicely in
h er h ig h school w ork. She also stated th a t she re
ceived th e h ig h est grad e in D om estic Science.
T he com m issioned officers of th e cadet corps received
orders from the W a r D epartm ent o rd erin g th a t th ey
m ust not w ear th e regulation arm y sh o u ld er-strap any
longer. A new insignia has been m ade w hich is to be
su b stitu ted for them .

'file prevocational nurses have been m uch in te re ste d
of late in dietetics.
Good rep o rts are m ade by Mrs. F ulkerson in regard
to the efficient m anner in w hich the hospital cooks have
prepared food for th e sick.
M innie C olum bia, a pupil from th e Colville reserva
tion, is draw in g plans for a hand loom for w eaving
clo th . M innie is a good stu d e n t and does very neat
w ork.
W ith th e high cost of all subsistence supplies pre-
valing, th e good m anagem ent of th e “ m ess” show s a
decrease of $76 in the general expenses th u s far for
M arch.
M artha Sprague, Mae A dam s an d Leona Jo h n are
devoting th e ir alloted tim e in the dressm ak in g d e p a rt
m ent to the m anufacture of blue serge coat su its for
th eir own use.
Delicious m arshm allow s and popcorn w ere m ade in
the dom estic science by th e eighth grade girls, w hich
were sold to the pupils for th e purpose of raisin g funds
in th a t d ep a rtm en t.
Mrs. W oods cannot too highly com m end th e p re
vocational lau n d ry girls. She says they have taken
great in terest and have done fine. T h e la u n d erin g
of the w hite uniform s belonging to th e M cBride
girls was no little job, but it was done well and w ith
dispatch.
T h e fourth grade class of girls in th e in term ed iate
sew ing dep artm en t have m uch good w ork to th eir
credit. M rs. C ulbertson speaks h ig h ly of th e ir e n
deavors to perform th eir w ork accurately and w ith
speed. T h ey will com plete the course w ith th is detail
and the fifth grade will follow them .
