The new sewer system is now completed.
Work is being rushed on the addition to the boiler
house.
Mrs. Doherty had Mrs. Brewer as guest at dinner
on Sunday.
Bids were opened on February 1st for two 150-horse
power boilers.
The 8th grade, accompanied by Miss White, visited
the State Legislature last week.
Mr. Kennedy and Fred Cardin were dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Hall on Sunday.
The ninth grade class is now practicing for the
Washington’s Birthday entertainment.
Mr. Mitchell, landscape gardener, is now busy prun
ing the rose bushes and other shrubbery.

The vocational domestic science class of girls, about
30 in number, visited E. C. Cross &Sons Meat Market
in Salem on Tuesnay. The proprietors went to great
pains to give the class minute explanations in regard
to the various cuts of meat. Miss Taylor, the domestic
science teacher, accompanied the class and reports a
very profitable visit.
The stringed instrument quartet, composed of Fred
Cardin, Alex Melovidov, William Palin and Willie
Reddie, visited Portland on Saturday and listened to
the concert given by the world-famous Flonzaley
String Quartet in the Heilig theater. At the conclu
sion of the concert the young men were presented to
the various members of this famous quartet. They
returned on the midnight Oregon Electric flier.
On Saturday night the second team contested the
strong Scio team and won by a score of 53 to 21. The
boys report a good time, as they were entertained by
the Scio players royally. The game was cleanly
played and the best team won. Our team consisted
of: Martin Colby, guard; George Nix, guard; Charles
Eder, center; Hartley Williams, forward; Robert
Downie, forward; James Crane, sub. Reggie Downie
went in charge of the team.
The masons are constructing a railing around the
lawn and flower section in front of the dining hall to
protect the grass and flowers.
Mrs. Clark, of the teachers’ club, has resigned her
position to take up work in Montana. She has made
many friends at Chemawa who dislike to see her go.
