but it will be new to some, and m any who th in k they
know all about it need to have it laid on afresh and

T h e first team had tw o contests the past w eek, one
w ith the M t. A ngel College and one w ith the Peninsula
P ark team at P o rtlan d . T h e M t. Angel gam e was
lost, 20 to 18. Chem aw a led up to w ithin ten seconds
of the end. when M t. A ngel shot tw o baskets in quick
succession, w inning th e gam e. T h e P ortland game
resu lted in a score of 32 to 18 in o u r favor. T his is
th e first gam e the P eninsula P ark team has lost this
season. T h e next gam e will be played at Chem aw a
w ith the Pacific College team of N ew berg.

T h e last few days the boys have been sk a tin g on the
pond below the dairy barn.

ch arts and th eir different cuts for the dom estic science.
T h e dairy boys are kept busy clean in g and d u stin g
eveiy corner of th e barn so th a t it can be disinfected.
T h e eig h th g rad e took an exam ination in history
from M r. H am m ond and are now p rep arin g for the
q u estions com ing from W ash in g to n .
A letter has been received from C has. N ew ton, an ex-
C hem aw a stu d e n t, at K ake, A laska. H e w ishes to be
rem em bered to all friends.
It was necessary for som e of th e garden boys to sit
up T h u rsd a y n ig h t to keep a fire in the root house, to
prevent th e potatoes from freezing.
M r. W estley has ju st received fuse and g ian t caps.

of th e hog lot.

and M rs. Hall at d in n er on W ednesday evening of last

T he first year girls of th e D om estic Science have fin
ished th e ir study of starch and its stru c tu re , and are b e
g in n in g th e stu d y of sugar and its stru c tu re this w eek.
T h e school boiler-room at the cen ter of th e cam pus
is u n d erg o in g changes by adding tw o more boilers of a
capacity exceeding those of the present tim e.
T h e seventh grade received word from th e ir class
m ate, A lex Beyer, who has gone to F t. Lapw ai for his
health. H e has gained twelve and a-half pounds since
he left here.
Mrs. Joel Baines, nee E lizabeth K inninook, w rites
from M etlakatla, A laska, and w ishes to be rem em bered
to her old friends. H er husband is bandm aster at
M e tlak a tla.
T h e m em bers af the o rchestra are a n x io u s for the a d
d ition to the auditorium to be finished, as they are d e
sirous of play in g in th e new orchestra pit. It will no
doubt be com pleted before the end of F eb ru ary .
G irls of the Dom estic Science D epartm ent m ade and
sold some cookies on T h u rsd ay afternoon. T h e girls
use th e m oney th u s obtained to help them in th eir
five-course dinner the n ex t day.
Mr. H am m ond suggested to the p u p ilso f th e 7th, 8th
and 9th grades th a t they go in a body to atten d a ses
sion of O regon L egislature. It m et w ith quick ap p ro v
al and dates are now being arranged for th e visit to
Salem .
T h e eighth grade pupils h a /e com pleted th eir w ork
in cost and value of foods, and m aking of m enus. T h e
last w eek’s w ork was planned to show how m uch better
a fam ily can live on a small income w hen they have a
vegetable g ard en and farm supplies to draw upon.
