m ost hilarious and ex p ectan t lot of pupils were the 87
sm aller boys. T h eir large s ittin g room was very a p
propriately decorated, w hich to g eth er w ith the b ea u ti
ful and g listen in g C hristm as tree, m ade a splendid
sig h t. T hen add 87 boys stan d in g by receiving goodly
packages of candy, oranges, apples, m arbles, balls,
h arp s and o th er th in g s, and you can im agine th e
happy faces and joyous actions of them all.
A su rp rise in th e n atu re of S anta C laus visited th e
little folks of W inona an d Small Bovs.
Band Serenade
A t 10:30 th e school band visited the various q u arters
th ro u g h o u t th e cam pus, p lay in g stirrin g airs. T h is
is a p retty custom and adds to th e already h appy
feeling of all.
D inner
T h e C hristm as d in n er was a b o u n tifu l repast and
was greatly enjoyed by th e stu d e n ts and th eir m any
v isitin g relatives and friends. As usual the em ployes
w aited upon th e pupils. T h is d in n er was prepared
alm ost entirely from subsistence raised on the farm .
T h e vegetables, m eat and fru its were of o u r own
raisin g . T h e d in in g room w hich is alw ays b eau ti
fully decorated w ith h a n g in g p lan ts and fir portieres
was even m ore artistic w ith its holly, m istletoe, p am
pas grass and m any lovely features. T h e m enu was

On C hristm as n ig h t th e annual social in th e g y m
nasium took place, th e larg er stu d e n ts using the main
floor while the sm aller ones occupied th e spacious
balcony. T h e C hristm as sp irit was here again d is
played. T he big gym was covered w ith green ery ,
C hristm as bells of all sizes were suspended from o v er
head; the effect was pleasing. A d elig h tfu l ev en in g
was sp en t by all. T h e school orchestra fu rn ish ed
m usic for the occasion.
Basketball
T h e first and second team s engaged in a h ard co n
test for suprem acy in basketball on T uesday aftern o o n .
Both sides had plenty of rooters.
T h e first team
was too stro n g , how ever, as th e score show ed.
R eceptions
T w o receptions w ere held on T u esd ay evening.
T h e y o u n g men of M itchell H all en tertain ed the la
dies of M cB ride H all and a quiet evening was enjoyed.
E v ery room in the b u ild in g w as im m aculate in a p
pearance, w ith tasteful decorations everyw here, and it
w as good to w itness th e dignified bearin g of th e 90
y o u n g men hosts, w ho lent every effort tow ard p ro p
erly receiving and e n te rta in in g a like num ber of
y o u n g lady guests. L ig h t refresh m en ts w ere served
in th e m usic room and also each of th e m any room s
th ro u g h o u t the b u ild in g had d ain ties spread o u t for
th e g uests.
T h e b o y s’ o rchestra gave a concert in
th e d o w n-stairs corridor.
A lto g eth er the reception
w as a success, largely due to th e in terest displayed by
M r. and M rs. Loos.
B rew er H all also E n te rta in s
T h e Brew er H all boys, not to be o utdone, gave a
reception in the gym to th e W inona H all girls. T h e
ev en in g was spent in social ch a tte r, d an cin g and
gam es. T h e boys w ere en th u siastic in d esirin g to
give th e 150 girls a good tim e and they certainly su c
ceeded. B ountiful refresh m en ts w ere served. M usic
for th e evening was fu rn ish ed by B row n’s o rchestra.
T h is function was ably m anaged by M r. and M rs.
S m ith and Mrs. D oherty.
G ym nasium E x h ib itio n
On W ednesday evening the en tire school and faculty
and m any visitors gathered in th e gym nasium to w it
ness an ex h ib itio n of folk d an cin g and various other
d rills, in w hich probably m ore th an tw o h u n d ed p u
pils p articip ated . T h is line of g y m nastics is an in n o
vation at C hem aw a and was en th u siastically enjoyed
by all. M r. E . A. S m ith, d iscip lin iarian , has been
very en ergetic in h an d lin g th e w ork and presented an
ex h ib ition w hich is a credit to the school and es
pecially a credit to his ability as an in stru c to r. Over
an ho u r was consum ed in th e ex h ib itio n and not one
m in u te but w hat was full of in terest and enjoym ent.
