Mr. R andell, P resid en t of th e V. M. C. A. of W il
lam ette U n iv ersity , visited th e Chem aw a A ssociation
last Sunday and gave an in terestin g talk at our
m eeting. In both atten d an ce and interest our associ
ation is stro n g er th an it has been for m any years.
G us G artiez m ade some fine iron brackets for the
w indow boxes in room eig h t. H e also m ade a fancy
stove lid lifter. W e are fo rtu n a te in having such an
obliging blacksm ith in our class.
T h e Y. W . C. A . and th e Y. M. C. A . had a social
in th e gym M onday ev en in g after the Bib’e classes.
Gam es and refresh m en ts helped th e y o u n g people to
spend a pleasant evening.
LOCALS
Both the Ju n io r Y . M. and Y. W . are grow ing.
T he younger people are p lan n in g a union m eeting
and hope to do as good as th e senior societies.

girls.
D uring the past w eek, the fourth grade room has
m aintained first place in the rank of well kept class
rooms.
Louis Baker, W illiam Bat hie and Ju liu s F ra n k are
doing fine in th eir pre-vocational work in the c a rp e n
ter shop.
T h e dom estic science d in in g room looks verv cosy
and nice in its decorations of red and green for
C hristm as.
T h e sew ing room girls are all th ro u g h w ith the
larger g irls’ blue sk irts and are ready to start on the
sm aller g irls’ blue uniform s.

of S u p erin ten d en t and M rs. H all on F rid ay evening.
M r. and Mrs. W allace Jaq u in s, of P o rtland, were
guests of M r. and Mrs. E dw ard A. Jaq u in s of C he
m aw a, on S unday.
T h e “V arsity ” basketball team played th eir first
gam e of th e season last F rid a y evening w ith the P a
cific College at N ew berg. T h e score was 41 to 23 in
favor of the College.

R everend Paul M icou, one of the N ational Secre
taries of the Y . M. C. A ., spent T h u rsd ay afternoon
and ev ening at C hem aw a. H e addressed the stu d en ts
in th e auditorium and m et w ith th e Y. M. C. A .
cabinet. Mr. Micou is an in te re stin g as well as a
forceful speaker. H e was a guest of Mr. K ennedy,
C h ristian w orker at C hem aw a.
W e are pleased to acknow ledge the receipt of a le t
ter from G eorge Scott, now of M etlakatla, A laska.
G eorge was em phatic in th e good th a t has resulted to
him from the tim e he spent at C h em aw a—he says his
schooling has proved a help to him w herever he has
been. R ecently he was w orking as assistant engineer
on a tu g boat on P u g et S ound— co n tin u in g until the
boat was laid up for th e w inter. H e says th at a n u m
ber of our ex -stu d e n ts are around S eattle and are
“ m ak in g g o o d .” Jim m ie E vans, he says, is keeping
store for the M etlakatla Com m ercial Co. L etters like
