com panied the football team to Mt. A ngel on S a tu r
day to w itness the gam e betw een Chem aw a and Mt.
A ngel College. T h e gridiron was very m uddy, w hich
was a handicap to th e Indian team w hich was lig h ter
th an th eir opponents, d ep en d in g more upon quickness
and speed th an upon w eight. D u rin g the first two
periods of the gam e Chem aw a o utplayed the Mt. A n
gel team and were several tim es near scoring, b u t
w ere penalized at various tim es d u rin g th is period
for off-side play, w hich prevented a score.
T atsham a m ade the m ost sensational run of th e day
for a gain of fifty y ard s upon a delayed pass. T h e
second half Mt. A ngel seemed to have the better of it
and w ere at two different tim es near to a touch dow n.
T h e In d ian s tried one field goal and Mt. A ngel two,
one of w hich was successful, th u s w in n in g the gam e
bv 3 points.
C ham berlain made a long ru n for a touch down
w hich was disallowed on account of an off-side play
by C hem aw a. Colby played his end position w ell,
sm ashing th e Mt. A ngel in terferen ce on plays directed
at his side of the line. E lk played a good defensive
gam e, b u t his passing at tim es was poor ow ing to the
m ud stick in g to the ball. P' le r's p u n tin g was b etter
th an th a t of th e opposing team , w hile E upps at tackle
played an especially good gam e. N ix was su b stitu ted
for E lenshaw d u rin g th e th ird q u arte r. Downie used
good ju d g m e n t in selection of plays except in one
instance w here he attem pted to advance the ball on
4th dow n on midfield and lost it on dow ns. C he
m awa as a w hole played a good gam e, p articu larly
in the first half, an 1 on a d ry field it is th o u g h t
w ould have won the gam e.
M uch school spirit was show n by the Chem aw a
rooters who enjoyed th e day regardless of the rain
and m ud.

T h e sew ing-room girls are hav in g lessons on differ
en t kinds of laces. Pillow laces, net an d crochet laces
are proving of great interest to the girls.
Mrs. Brewer spent Sunday w ith her son and d a u g h
ter, E oulin and R u th , at C orvallis w here they are a t
ten d in g th e O regon A g ricu ltu ral College.

T h e societies met as usual last W ednesday evening.
T h e N onpareil Society continued th eir study of Eong-
fellow, w hile the others presented very creditable p ro
gram s.
T h e Rain on S atu rd ay m orning broke up th e cold
spell of th e previous w eek, m uch to th e d elight of the
old O regonians but to the sorrow of th e football e n
th u siasts.
On T uesday of this week H en ry Cam pbell gave us
an in terestin g talk about g ra ftin g fru it trees. H en ry
seem s to understand some of the principles of g ra ft
in g . M r. W estley speaks well of him .
T he Chapel service S unday n ig h t as usual was
m uch enjoyed. T h e Second Indian S u ite by T u rn ey ,
was beau tifully rendered by the S trin g Q u artet and
w as very m uch appreciated. T he choir gave a very
pleasing num ber.
M r. W estley, our garden in stru c to r, is on his vaca
tion. H e left F ran k E. Johnson in charge. F ra n k
will each day deliver vegetables and apples to the
k itch en , dom estic science build in g , and hospital.
C hester S m ith, A rth u r John so n , H enderson T a ts
ham a and Rov N uckolls will do the plow ing. T he
train in g of loganberries will be continued w ith M artin
Colby as boss.
John A nderson, a b ro th er of Mike McCleod, has
come down from A laska to enroll at Chem aw a.
