T h e first year g irls in Dom estic Science, Seventh B,
have taken up th e ir first lesson in cooking. T hey

T h e N onpariel L iterary Society held a m eeting last
W ednesday ev ening and tw en ty new m em bers w ere
ad m itted . T h ere is alw ays room for earnest w orkers.
Mrs. H en d erso n , wife of o u r p o p u lar m erchant at
C hem aw a, spent several days last week in Salem at
the bedside of her m other who had u n d erg o n e a se ri
ous surgical operatio n .
S hortly after C hristm as the pupils will be chosen
to tak e p art in th e school play to be presented th e
last of the year d u rin g the alum ni and ex -stu d e n t re
union and other events.
O ur genial station agent, M r. F ra n k R. P en d er
grass, is tak in g a leave of absence in th e hills of
S outhern O regon, h u n tin g deer. W e are daily w ait
ing for th e venison to arrive.
Considerable im provem ents have been m ade in the
rear part of Brew er H all. A new stairw ay has been
constructed as well as cem ent floors. T h e ca rp e n ter
detail is k ep t busy these days.
T h e masons have ju st com pleted a walk across th e
road in front of th e main en tran ce. T h ey also laid a
concrete floor for S u p erin ten d e n t H a ll’s new garag e.
T h e carpenter detail is now erectin g the fram e.
and new books th a t encum bered th e tables last w eek.
O u r b u lletins cover a w ide ran g e of subjects and are
proving invaluable to th e in d u strial d ep artm en ts.
T h e E ig h th grade has been b u ild in g silos and filling
them on paper. T h a t th e ir w ork is practical th e fol
low ing problem will show: “ If you have a herd of 8
cows, how large a silo should you build to provide 35
lbs. of ensilage tw ice a day to each cow for six
m o n th s?”
