F or the past year or tw o the health of Mrs. W adsw orth has been
very poor, especially in the w inter season—so poor, in fact, as to cause
considerable apprehension. R ecently, on th e advice of the doctor, who
urged th at she be taken to a so u th ern clim ate, S u p t. W adsw orth, w ith
the consent of the Indian Office, effected an exchange of positions w ith
S upt. H all of San Jacinto, C alifornia. By th is exchange S upt. W ads
w orth will have th e superintendency of about a dozen Mission Indian
reservations in S anta Barbara, Los A ngeles and San Diego counties,
w hile S upt. H all will take charge at Chem aw a. Each will assum e
charge in his new field on July 1st. S upt. W adsw orth has already
taken his d ep artu re from Chem aw a and S upt. H all is, at th is w riting,
expected soon.
S upt. W adsw orth has the satisfaction of having inau g u rated m any
im provem ents at Chem aw a— too num erous to attem pt m entioning at
this tim e. H e has m any warm friends who reg ret his d ep artu re and
who will ever rem em ber him with feelings most k in d ly , and will hope
him only good luck in his new field of endeavor. Mrs. W adsw orth,
too, has num erous friends here who sym pathize w ith her in her d is
tressin g state of health. She is still here at present under the care of
Dr. Burgess, b u t hopes soon to d ep art for the so u th . H er d au g h ter,
Miss A gnes, is here w ith her.
It is a pleasure in this connection to ex ten d a welcome to S upt. and
Mrs. H arw ood H all, who are soon to be established at this school.
Both may be su re of a cordial welcome from us all, who are to co-oper
ate w ith S upt. H all, as we have w ith S upt. W adsw orth in the past,
and we tru st th at they in tu rn may like Chem aw a and her people.

S tatistics made public today by T h e N ational A ssociation for the
S tudy and Prevention of T uberculosis show th at nearly 3,000 agencies
are now listed in the fight against tuberculosis in the U nited States, an
increase of 1600 per cent, since 1904, w hen the national w arfare on this
disease was started . T hese figures are taken from a new tuberculosis
directory ju st issued by the A ssociation.
T h e list includes 557 sanatoria and hospitals, 158 tuberculosis b o ard
ing houses, 90 hospitals for the insane and 35 penal in stitu tio n s m aking
m akin g special provision for tuberculosis, 455 dispensaries 310 open
air schools and 1324 anti-tuberculosis associations and com m ittees.
