S upervisor P eairs has sent us w ord th a t ow ing to lack of prospective
attendance the in stitu te w hich was scheduled for the Carlisle school
this year has been cancelled.
On May 16 S upt. W adsw orth, Mr. Sm ith, Mr. P ugh and others w ent
by auto to O. A. C ., at Corvallis, to atten d th e m ilitary drill and in
spection of cadets at th a t in stitio n .
M r. A dam s of Siletz was a visitor at the school d u rin g com m ence
m ent. D u rin g th e past year four of his children attended school here
and one of them , Russell, graduated last m onth.
In the early p art of th is m onth Miss R uth Brewer g raduated w ith
honors at th e Salem H ig h School. H er career as a high school stu dent
was m ost creditable in every way and we are pleased to note her well-
m erited successes.
A m ong those whom we were very glad to see during our com m ence
m ent was Robt. Service, of A storia, O regon. H e is a g rad u ate and a
w orthy one. A t present he is engaged in salmon fishing near A storia,
w ith his father, and is g ettin g along nicely.
Mrs. Redford has accepted a tran sfer to W arm sp rin g , w here she will
hold a position as c le rk —a position w hich she held here for a couple of
years. A large circle of friends at Chem aw a will alw ays be pleased to
learn of her success and happiness no m atter w here she mav be.
A bout the first of Ju n e R eggie Downie left th is office for A laska.
W hen last we heard of him he was in the vicinity of W rangell, w here
he had em ploym ent in connection w ith the fishing in d u stry . Reggie
was one of our most capable p rin ters and will m ake good anyw here.
T h is year the baccalaureate address to our g rad u atin g class was de
livered by Dr. J. O. H all of W illam ette U niversity. “ T h e G reat W hite
T h ro n e ” was his topic and he handled it in a m asterly w ay. S upt.
W adsw orth was fortunate in securing so able a man to deliver our
baccalaureate th is year.
W hile prim arily for the benefit of In d ian service em ployes, the in
stitu te s to be held at the various In d ian scnools th is sum m er are open
to all w ith o u t th e service who may care to atten d . T h e O regon A g ri
cu ltu ral College is co-operating w ith th e governm ent in connection
w ith our in stitu te th is year and it is needless to state th a t a fine course
of lectures will be delivered d u rin g the two weeks of the in stitu te .
