It is believed th a t the program s of all the in stitu tes will be of such a
character th at no person in the In d ian Service who can possibly attend
should neglect the o p p o rtu n ity . Add to th is the necessity of being
present to participate in th e discussions of the num erous problem s in
connection w ith the in tro d u ctio n of the new course of study, and ce r
tainly no school can afford not to be well represented.
A m ore com plete announcem ent, in clu d in g individual program s of all
of the institu tes, will be issued later, how ever, as already intim ated,
the program s will be q u ite sim iliar to th is one, therefore, it is hoped
th a t each one will prom ptly decide w hich of th e in stitu te s to atten d and
report to the office as requested.
N o t e - C om m issioner Cato Sells will m ake a g reat effort to be p resen t at each

sent to a statem ent th a t it is the m ost graceful and
handsom e snow capped m ountain in the U nited

any of them w ith this m ountain. More space is given to Lord Sam uel
H ood, A dm iral of the B ritish N avy, than any of the others and it records
an account of the active hand he took against the colonists in th eir w ar
to tlnow off the B ritish yoke and also the fact th at he was subjected to
censure for his failure to relieve Cornw allis at Y orktow n. But he does
not appear to have ever been on the west coast of th e U nited S tates and
there seems to be no reason w hy O reg o n ’s greatest m ountain should be
nam ed after one of th e enem ies of our forefathers. T h e question from
whence cam e th is nam e is solved by a book recently published, “ V an
