In addition to the splendid opportunities presented at o u r in stitu te,
visitors will be able to become acquainted with the w onderful W illam
ette \ alley, perhaps the most fertile and prolific of th e famous valleys
of the Pacific Coast. From present indications we will have a record
crop of fruit of every kind.
A few days ago Mr. K ennedy left for A tlan tic C ity, N . J ., w here he
will attend the national convention of the Presbyterian church as a dele
g ate from this district in O regon. W hile in the E ast he will attend to
some other business some affairs of his ow n—and he does not expect
to be back here until the latter part of June.

Speaking of a bird-house ex h ib it recently held in E v erett, W ash.,
I he Daily H erald of th a tc ity m entioned little W illie Jim icum of T ula-
lip as follows: “ T his boy sent in one of the finest specim ens of a ru s
tic bird house in the en tire ex h ib it. W illie certainly did a splendid job
on this house and receives special m ention. He gets one of the finest
pocket knives in stock and his house will be retu rn ed to him in good
condition. H ere is an In d ian boy who has the w hite boys beaten a
mile at th eir own gam e.
I he roof on this house was m arked excellent
and was the very best th a t was seen at the show . W illie is only 11
vears o ld .”
T he follow ing is an ex tra ct from the “ Spokesm an-R eview ” : F ire
w ater, the curse of the redm an, is now sought after in vain by the I n
dians in th is vicinity. A t least, the records of th e federal court
indicate th at the Colville reservation is probably the dryest spot in the
whole dry state of W ash in g to n . N ot an arrest for selling liquor to I n
dians or in tro d u cin g it onto a reservation has been made by the federal
au th o rities since the first of the year. U nless some arrest for one of
these offenses is made in the next th ree or four weeks th e April session
of the grand ju ry will present a condition h ith erto unknow n in the
history of th e federal co u rt— a crim inal docket w ith no bootlegging
case. In the past every session has had to deal w ith from 15 to 20
“ liquor to In d ia n s” cases.
