M rs. S chillerstroni, who had ta u g h t in the academ ic d ep artm en t d u r
ing th e past school year, resigned the first of May and joined her h u s
band at Point T errace, O regon.

in stitu te, and everyone atten d in g will be m ade com fortable. Please

I wice since our last issue has M r. Sm ith given physical cu ltu re drills
and exercises w ith his classes. O nce was for th e benefit of our own
C hem aw a fam ily” and th e second exhibition was for the general
public. Both ex h ib itio n s w ere well patronized and both were m erito
rious to the highest degree. T h is is w ork of th e greatest im portance
in m ain tain in g th e good health of the stu d en t body.
E aster has passed again and rabbit eggs now are scarce once m ore,
it was a nice E aster in Chem aw a in many ways. It almost rained,
doubtful as th e statem en t m ay sound, b u t not a drop p enetrated our
E aster bonnet, so we opine th at all was lovely. One of the most in te r
estin g features of the day was a d in n er given on the lawn by Miss
Skipton to (piite a large num ber of girls who are attached to her and
her detail. It was a splendid success.
D uring the past few weeks C hem aw a had for a short tim e, as guest,
M rs. \ iolet Mecum nee E dw ards
Since her m arriage at the school,
some five or six years ago, Mrs. Mecum and her husband have m ade
Prosper. O regon, th eir home, and there M r. Mecum has steady em
ploym ent and is doing well. Mrs. Mecum has a little girl four years
old now. She was on her way to W rangell, A laska, for a visit of some
m onths w ith friends th ere. T h at section of the country was her c h ild
hood home.
On the evening of April 24th an em ployees’ party was given in the
big gym . T h is was a week earlier than usual, as it took the place of
the regular m onthly social for M ay. T h e reason th at the occasion was
advanced was because Mr. Peairs and Mr. Coon were here at th a t tim e,
but could net rem ain over until the follow ing M onday n ig h t. A very
enjoyable evening was passed. T h e reg u lar m onthly business m eeting
of the em ployees followed a w eek.later and was presided over by S upt.
