Sunday School C onvention, w hich was held in Chem aw a on M arch 26th.
Supt. W adsw orth has w orkm en at the task of reco n stru ctin g the lav
atory for Brewer H all. W ork has been progressing rapidly since good
w eather set in. W hen com pleted the lavatory will represent an im prove
m ent w hich was greatly needed.
W illiarn Lovelace, form erly assistant engineer at Chem aw a but now
engineer at P t. Simcoe, paid Chem aw a friends a brief visit recently.
H e was in splendid health when here and spoke in highest term s of his
present position and location. H e likes F t. Simcoe, the people, and
his job. A num ber of form er C hem aw ans are w orking there and he re
ports them all well and doing well.
Not a great m any days ago we were visited by Miss M. Burgess, who
a num ber of years ago had charge of the p rin tin g departm ent at C ar
lisle d u rin g the schooldays of M r. S m ith and w hile here was the guest
of th e latter and Mrs. Sm ith. Miss B urgess at present is m aking her
hom e in Chicago. She passed th ro u g h Chem aw a w hile on a to u r of
the Pacific coast. She intended to go n o rth from here into Canada,
thence to her hom e in Chicago.
Dr. C harles M. B uchanan, su p erin ten d en t at T u lalip , arrived at C he
mawa on M arch 13th to assist in the w ork of sta rtin g the new course of
stu d y , he having been appointed by Com m issioner Sells to look after
this work at Chem aw a and nearly all of the schools in the state of
W ashington. T h e Doctor found m any old-tim e friends here who were
pleased to greet him and who enjoyed visits w ith him while he was
here. H e proved, as everyone knew he w ould, th oroughly versed on
th e various phases of th e new course of stu d y and had a most e n te r
tain in g way of ex p lain in g m atters and clearing away obstacles. As he
had been one of the men chosen from th e field to assist in o u tlin in g the
course he was able to explain ev ery th in g from the stan d p o in t of first
hand know ledge. As m atters now stand he is a very busy m an, for he
still has the d u ties as su p erin ten d en t of his own school to look after,
added to w hich is th e im m ense am ount of field w ork th at it has be
come his special mission to supervise.
