One of the rules of a club m ade up entirely of ec
centric young men was th at on each T uesday evening
an\ m em ber who asked a question at the club-room s
w hich he could not answ er him self m ust pay a fine of
$10. O ne T ueday n ig h t you n g Jones p u t the follow
ing question to his fellows: “ How does the ground
squirrel m anaged to leave no d irt around th e top of his
hole w hen he digs it?”
No one could answ er it and all turned to Jones,
hoping to see him fall down in attem p tin g to explain
and have to pay the fine. “ W e ll,” he said, “ that
question is easy enough. You see the squirrel sim ply
sta rts at the bottom and digs u p .”
1 heoretically, that sounds very g o o d ,” said a m em
ber who prided him self on his sharpness, “ but how
does your squirrel get to the bottom ?”
“ My dear fellow, th a t’s your q u estio n ,” replied
Jones.
