SPLENDID SHOWING MADE BY THOSE UNDER DRILL

HE entertainment given in the gym March 8 was
deserving of much credit to the school and will serve
as a splendid example of what can he done in the na
ture of physical training. The general appearance of
the boys battalion since this line of work is being
carried on will reflect credit to the untiring efforts of
those who are directly in charge of the work. The
several numbers on the long program were well rendered, each boy and
girl doing his or her part well.
The flag drill by the Winona Hall girls was the first number. Fully
sixty girls were in the drill, which was simple and yet impressive in na
ture. At the close of the drill “ Old Glory” was raised to the high ceil
ing, the girls giving the salute and repeating the pledge.
McBride Hall girls came on for the second number with a well-arranged
wand drill. The girls made a very nice appearance and won much ad
miration for the efforts displayed in the drill.
The boys from the Small Boys’ Building appeared for the third num
ber, in a calisthenic drill. It seemed that their efforts won the most
hearty applause, owing to the movements in the drill. The dryland
swim, boat ride and beetle bug movements were the features in their
numbers.
The Brewer Hall and Mitchell Hall boys easily carried off the honors
ill the Indian Clubs and dumb bell drill. Each exercise consisted of
fifteen movements, some of which were difficult, however, well carried
out.
The mat tumbling by Alex Melovidov, Ivan Anderson and William
Albert was the result of a great deal of hard work. High jumping from
a spring board, vaulting from the horse, rope climbing, going through
the traveling rings, flying rings, work on the parallel bars, horizontal
bars, and horizontal ladder, added a great deal to the evening’s enter
tainment. The marching and general order during the drill and exer
cises was excellent.
Owing to the faithful assistance of the pianist, Miss Gertrude Brewer
the evening exercises were rendered in a very creditable manner.
