HE past month was the most successful period of Che
mawa’s basketball season. A large number of games
were played by the several teams, all of which were
turned into victoriors, due to fast and consistent team
work.
Our first team went on February 2nd to Mount
Angel and beat the Collegians bv the score of 32 to
14. On February 16th the Salem Y. M. C. A. came to Chemawa and
our boys took their measure by the overwhelming score of 54 to 22
On February 12th we gave the same team a return game at Salem and
in one of the fastest games ever seen at Salem, our boys won a hard-
earned victory by the score of 31 to 30. On February 16th Mt. Angel
College gave us a return game at Chemawa and was beaten by 38 to 33.
On February 19th Chemawa’s team went to Philomath College and
brought home a 38 to 23 victory. On February 25th the strengthened
\ . M. C. A. quintet came to Chemawa for another game. This game
proved one of the best ever seen at the local gymnasium. Our boys
won by the score of 30 to 28.
During the previous month the Mute School quintet defeated our
juniors in two close games. The boys of the Mute School thought
themselves strong enough play our second team. This game came off
on Feb. 12th at Chemawa. The Mute School players were beaten by a
one-sided score of 31 to 17. On Feb. 5th our “ Midgets” were seen in
action for the first time. This team is composed of small boys, weigh

Grant Junior High School of Salem. Although our Midgets were out
weighed, they managed to beat the Grant quintet by the score of 21 to
17. On February 19th our juniors defeated the first team of Grant High
School by the score of 33 to 13.

where they played the Independence High School a return game full of
pep and thrills; our girls downed the High School team to the tune of 16
