W e are practically on the hom estretch of our basketball season and
not too late to redeem ourselves for the defeats of th e early p art of the
season; by going into th e rem aining gam es w ith a determ ination to make
th e season a successful one. A lthough som ew hat crippled in the last
four or five weeks bv th e loss of Dowuie, our star forw ard, w hich had
som ew hat disorganized th e team ; b u t from all indications th e team is
back in th eir stride again.
T he gam e w ith Com pany L ” of the Dallas N ational G uards on Jan.
23rd was one of the fastest and hardest fought gam es ever played on the
C hem aw a floor. T h e gam e was fast from sta rt to the finish and in fact
was an y -o n e’s gam e till the last m in u te of play. A lthough a little
rough at tim es the gam e was in terestin g to the spectators. H ere’s w here
experience counted and Dallas show ed by th eir p laying th a t they had
experience, w hile Chem aw a was som ew hat handicapped. But nev er
theless th e boys were fighting every second of th e gam e. One can see
by the score how h ard fought th e gam e was, “ D illas 19, Chem aw a 17.”
Shaw and B alentine were the stars for Dallas w hile th e whole Chemawa
team were playing the gam e at all tim es and it would be a hard m atter
to pick any stars from th e Chem aw a team . T h e line-up follows:

W oodburn, O. N . G . Co. I. Ys. C hem aw a— T he Chem aw a basketball
team w ent to W oodburn on Jan. 30, and played the O. N . G . team a
good gam e of ball. O ur team was in the lead at the end of the first half
by the score of 13 to 10. O ur boys played a clean gam e and the passing
and basket shooting of Jim and H au ser p u t us in the lead, w hile C ham
berlin and M cDonald did fine g u ard in g . T h e gam e ended in a dispute
and was forfeited to Chem aw a.
W illam ette 20, Chem aw a 21—T h e school basketball team w ent to
Salem to wipe out th e W . U . team . Both team s expected to w in, but
as you all know , only one team yan do it. T he gam e was rough all
th ro u g h . It was a fight to the finish, but our boys were too m uch for
W . U . team . T he basket-shooting of our boys and fast passing of the
team won us th e gam e. W e will have a retu rn gam e w ith W illam ette
on the 18th of F eb ru ary , so come out and support th e team .

M innville on Feb. 6th and were snowed under to the tu n e 38 to 21. T h e
