of the givers w hen they w rap up th eir C hristm as packages and then
p u t my little face w here it will 1 m ? seen. I am usually put on the back
of the package rig h t beside the name of my sender, but I am also found
on the inside, too.
I was born about the first of A ugust, but you d o n 't see me
until December, when I m ake my first appearance. By New Y ea r’s
Day I shall have spread my w ings and flown away and you w o n 't see
me again till n ex t year at about th is tim e.

w ith a sm iling, cheerful face, but ju st a little bit changed, for you know
th a t will be a year later, and age changes o n e’s face quite considerably.
You may find me yourself at C hristm as-tim e -th a t is. if you will know
me from my description, and I hope you will, because I w ant you to
understand my message.

Just recently the Indians of the Lum m i reservation held a most su c
cessful fair. T h is reservation is on Puget Sound, in the state of W ash
ington, and is a part of th e T u lalip reserve, being under the jurisdiction
of Dr. Chas. M. B uchanan. From reports to reach us the fair was a
great success, From an exchange we m ake the following reprint:
In th e schoolhouse on th e Lum m i Indian reservation S atu rd ay , the
second annual fair was held and well atten d ed .
W hile the ex hibits were not large, they were of most creditable c h a r
acter and clearly indicate the advancem ent which the Lummi Indians
are m aking in d u strially and ag ricu ltu rally .
T he ex h ib its were under the direction of a com m ittee com posed of
W illiam M cClusky, G eorge Boone, T hom as Jefferson, Peter Jam es, Sol
omon Balch and A ngel Jefferson. T h is com m ittee proposes to make of
th e L um m i fair an annual event and n ex t year to have an extensive
program and a list of prem ium s such as will attract more ex h ib its and a
larger attendance.
